I was dragged kicking and screaming to see 'Silence of the Lambs' as it really isn't my kind of film, but I had to admit that the acting and direction were superb. At least I then knew what all the fuss was about. When Hannibal arrived on the big screen I felt I should see this sequel.
It was a real let down. The plot is very thin and the acting, except for Sir Anthony Hopkins is certainly not good.
In short, (it is short anyway), the story goes like this. Hannibal the Cannibal is working as an art dealer in Florence. Clarice is mixed up in a drugs case that has gone wrong on her. The Italian police inspector in the story tries to sell Hannibal to his only surviving victim. Are you confused? Go and see the film and you will be!
The plot does run fairly close to the story in the book but what could have been a marvellous film was turned into a second rate 'B' Movie type of thing. Poor acting and poor direction were the least of the problems. The whole thing just didn't work. It wasn't really a horror film because what should have been horrific just came across as disgusting and I personally found bits of made my stomach churn. You couldn't put it in the thriller category either as there wasn't the same intense and gripping feel as there was with Silence of The Lambs.
If you haven't seen this don't bother. Save your money!
