The release of the book, and the knowledge that possibly the greatest sequel to a film in cinema history was to be produced was of great intereset to me. Having read the book, multiple times in preparation for the film, I went with great expectations of what I was about to view...
I was supprised at what I actually saw, a good film, yes I'll give it that. A serious contender to the philosophical, and intellectually challenging predocessor? I'm afraid not.
Although the film had a storyline that worked, it became obvious very quickly that Director Ridley Scott was looking for action, blood and guts... This was plentiful, Character development was blatantly not going to appear today.
I could sit here and point by point go through the differences from the book, the lack of contrast from Silence of the Lambs, but I won't.
Don't get me wrong, the film in its own extent was fine, but it did nothing to relieve my disappointment at its lack of continuality from Silence of the Lambs.
For people who have seen the film, and for people going to see it, just think, Doesn't Mason Verger look like a Chimpanzee? Or is it just me?
Anyway, In my books this film would rate about 7/10. Enough to go and see, but when the video comes out, I for one won't be bothered...

I disagree that there was no character development. We were introduced to a Lecter that we had
never seen before - a free man who could do what he wanted.
