The concept is a brilliant one for kids but harder for those over a certain age to swallow - I mean the only physical change between Miley and Hannah is a blonde wig! The charm of the TV show however is the comedy, particularly the sparring between some of the characters and the "cosy" feel you get from the studio sets depicting the Stewart family home, school and the beach.
My daughter is a huge Hannah Montana fan so there was never going to be any doubt we would be going to the cinema to see this film when it was released.
I will preface this by saying she absolutely loved it - and I suppose she should. She is 12 and part of the target audience for the movie. Her friend loved it too. Me - well, I had problems with it.
Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) is getting a little too big for her boots as her pop career as Hannah Montana becomes a global phenomenon. She upstages her best friend Lily (Emily Osment) at Lily's "sweet sixteen" party, gets photographed in a catfight with Tyra Banks over a pair of free designer shoes and misses saying goodbye to her brother Jackson (Jason Earles) as he leaves Los Angeles to start university in the family's home state of Tennessee.
She is also being stalked by a journalist named Oswald (Peter Gunn) from a British sleaze rag called Bom Chic, who through eavesdropping discovers Hannah has a secret and is determined to find out what this secret is and publish it as a world exclusive.
Miley's widowed father Robby (Billy Ray Cyrus) is frustrated with her behaviour and finally snaps when Miley informs him she cannot go to her grandmother's birthday celebrations in Tennessee due to a conflicting engagement in New York as Hannah Montana. Robby outsmarts Miley and her publicist Vita (Vanessa Williams) by hiring a private jet and promptly informing the pilot to fly to Tennessee instead of New York.
Miley is therefore effectively grounded in the small town of Crowley Corners for the next two weeks with Robby hoping the experience will teach her not to forget where she came from. In the ensuing period both Miley and her father are left to contemplate - can they really have the best of both worlds?
If you like tall tales and simplistic explanations, this is the kind of movie you will enjoy. It's totally aimed at children and works well with that audience, but there's not so much for the adults watching this to enjoy, which for me as a parent, is the difference between what I would classify as an entertaining diversion or purgatory.
"Hannah Montana - the Movie" has a very flimsy storyline and few truly good actors to carry it. Both Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus are acceptable actors rather than outstanding ones, and I have always felt when watching the TV series they were merely playing themselves, particularly Miley. Billy Ray usually brings in the laughs in the TV version in scenes where he spars with Jason Earles, however this isn't exploited in the film version at all. This is a shame as Earles is a fine comic actor who is excellent in his all too few scenes in the movie.
Peter Gunn, who plays the sleazy journalist Oswald, isn't as odious as he could be. Of course this being a Hollywood movie, the baddies are all Brits and it is to the usual British stereotype that the producers turn. Oswald has a distinctly northern accent but his daughters are two impossibly posh jolly hockey stick types who attend a boarding school. Why Hollywood, and in particular Disney, persist with this mythical portrayal of us Brits mystifies and irks me, particularly given the director of this Disney film is British himself.
The best performances I felt came from Margo Martindale as Miley's grandmother Ruby, who gives a truly touching and believable performance and from an ever dependable Vanessa Williams. Tyra Banks has fun portraying herself but Barry Bostwick is wasted in his small part as a property developer. There was a fine chemistry between him and Margo Martindale which I felt the director failed to capitalise upon.
Disney have also gone down the predictable road of idealising rural Tennessee and portraying the property developers who want to build a mall as being evil and manipulative. Coming from a company as pervasive as Disney, this is more than a little hypocritical. We also get lots of pops at California from those simple country folks, which is obviously a nod towards the middle America that hates Hollywood and tends to love films like this.
Don't get me wrong - the scenery in Tennessee is absolutely beautiful - and the downtown shots, filmed in the city of Columbia in the state are lovely - displaying streets full of mom and pop stores and a colourful farmer's market. However the scenes shot at Santa Monica pier in LA are equally ravishing and one wonders just how "mom and pop" downtown Columbia is in real life.
Probably the best thing about this film is the music. Miley Cyrus isn't a brilliant singer, but she performs her songs with flair. Better are the songs performed by Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts in cameo appearances, and the duet Miley performs with her father is particularly touching.
Overall however I was left feeling the Hannah Montana idea works better on TV - the characters don't seem big enough to fill the screen in a movie and there was too much Miley and Robby, and not enough of other regular characters from the TV series. The cynic in me would suggest this is because Billy Ray Cyrus is a co-producer of the film.
However I am fully aware of the fact I am an adult and this is a film aimed fairly and squarely at girls aged 14 and under - and the two 12 year olds I accompanied to see the film absolutely loved it, so clearly Disney know their market, and the box office receipts would bear this out.
So overall this is going to please your daughter if she is a Hannah Montana fan, but don't expect to be sucked in too much yourself.
Advantages: A wonderfully inspirational and fun film, great songs and dancing and great cast Disadvantages: None at all
Hannah Montana The Movie is the film of the popular TV show Hannah Montana. In the film we see Miley Stewart's disguise as the famous singer, Hannah Montana, becoming more and more popular. But soon enough Miley begins to struggle with her double life - one normal life where she attends the local school and hangs out with her friends, and the other where she sings at concerts and signs autographs in the street. The double life begins to be too much ... ...party. But the character of Hannah Montana, singing and being famous is Miley's dream and she won't give it up for anything. So her father, Robby, decides to take drastic measures and, under the guise of flying to New York for a show, he charters a private jet and flies them to their home town in Tennessee, hoping to bring some sense to his daughter and get rid of the 'diva' trait she's seemed to pick up. But Miley is horrified - she is going to ...

Hannah Montana is a vastly sweeping brand. The name itself has gotten almost as big as the company to which it was born. The show has made Miley Cyrus the richest teenager on the planet and has kick started her semi-famous father's career as a singer (as well as an actor.) Advantages: Brilliantly acted, loovely sound track, for an adult it was a memory of being young Disadvantages: Nothing negative to say
I have seen the Hannah Montana TV series and not really enjoyed it but on a rainy day on holiday I found myself taking my 6 year old daughter to see the movie and I'm so glad we did.
Without wanting to give the plot away the film is about a voyage of discovery for Miley to ascertain who she is and what is truly important to her. There are some lovely family scenes and very touching moments and also it gave me a memory of being young again and what ... ...the filming is in the south of the US and it really is a refreshing world away from the TV series, and although a Disney production it is also a world away from High School Musical.
The soundtrack is superb with songs not only from Miley Cyrus but also her Dad, Steve Rushton and Taylor Swift.
The rating for this film is a PG and I was more than comfortable with my daughter here.
Don't wait go and see it - the benefit of the larger screen just ...

Like most of Disneys movies Hannah Montana the Movie was not that different! From the very beginning till the last moment the scenes were what we all pretty much expected. There was no moment of excitement throughout the movie and except for the last bit the whole movie was a bit dull if you ask me. But I'll have to say that Miley Cyrus did a good job with the songs and made something out of a nothing movie! Personally I forced myself to sit and ...

Advantages: Excellent movie for children. Disadvantages: Not for everyone.
I am reviewing the HannahMontanamovie and as a person who watches the HannahMontana show regularly on Disney I have to say that it was a huge disappointment .The plot was so incredibly predictable and cliché that I literally fell asleep! Also I was very upset that Emily Osment and Jason Earles did not have more quality screen time. I recommend this movie only to people who have a daughter below the age of ten ,it is definitely not for eighteen year olds like me !If you want to watch the movie ,rent it but do not buy the DVD it is not worth it unless you are buying it for your kid. I have to give the movie credit for being a typical Disney movie and teaching good values to little children. The best thing that I liked in this movie was the soundtrack. The soundtrack has wonderful, feel good songs that you can't help but love. ...

on the Disney Channel. HannahMontana is the main character in the television series ; she is a very famous teenage pop star , although Miley Stewart (who is actually HannahMontana) keeps her 'pop star' life a secret , and so lives a normal girl's life as Miley and then a life of glitter and glamour as HannahMontana. The series follows Miley as she leads a double life.
When I heard there was going to be a HannahMontanamovie , I just had to see it! Although , I had decided , I was NOT going to go the cinema to see it , in case I saw someone I knew and my interest in the show would be revealed. So all I could do was sit and wait (patiently) for the film to come out on Blu-ray and then know one would know!

DVD Description
After the huge success of HANNAH MONTANA and MILEY CYRUS: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONCERT, an all-new Hannah Montana adventure cruises to the big screen with this comedy. Hannah's star continues to climb, while Miley is in danger of being lost in the shuffle. The film opens with Hannah's hectic lifestyle wrecking the important relationships in her life; she gets into a catfight over shoes with Tyra Banks, she forgets to say goodbye when her brother leaves for college, and she's late for her best friend's sweet sixteen. To help bring her back to Earth, Miley's dad (Billy Ray Cyrus) takes her to Crowley Corners, Tennessee, where there's plenty of love and laughter in the air. At first Miley hates being stuck in the backwoods town, but can a cute young ranch hand -- and her grandmother's love -- eventually melt her heart? And, when the town needs to raise cash to stop a developer from soiling their perfect little community with a big mall, can the part-time celebrity performer save the day? HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE stars favourites from the TV series as well as Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift.
