Being a fan of Will Smith I have been wanting to watch this film since its release but as a bargain hunter I waited until it came down in price. I managed to watch it last night and I was so glad I did.
Will Smith plays John Hancock who is a down and out super hero who is not liked by the public as when he does good deeds and helps he always manages to leave a trail of destruction which costs millions to repair. When he goes to the aid of a man trapped in his car on a railway line with a train fast approaching he finds this meeting has more of an impact on his life then he could ever have expected.
Ray, who Hancock saved, persuades Hancock to try and turn his life around and make him a wanted and loved super hero. Hancock is very dubious at first but agrees to go along with it. His plans don?t seem to be going very well when Hancock?s first job is to attend court and serve time in prison for his destruction and bad ways. Will Hancock and Ray be able to make him loved by the public and will Hancock discover the truth about his past?
I absolutely loved this film and so did my hubby even though he was not too keen on watching it. Right from the start I was hooked and though that the story was very good. Will played the part of the down and out extremely well and I thought his character was very believable and he managed to pout his feelings across very well on screen. The supporting actors, Jason Bateman and Charlie Theron also played their roles very well and they all worked well together on screen.
I thought that the story was good and I was not able to predict what the outcome of the film was going to be unlike most films which you can tell what is going to happen after about the first 30 minutes. I liked the way that it was different to films which I had seen before. I particularly enjoyed the ending which in places was quite sad.
There are plenty of laughs in the film, the cover of the DVD does say that there is lots of crude humour in the film but I find that this is usually exaggerated but not with this film. The best bit which made both me and hubby laugh out loud was when he shoved a prisoners head up another prisoners bottom.
The effects throughout the film was extremely good and believable. None of them looked out of place and they all looked very real.
The DVD which I have does not have any bonus material but this did not bother me as I don?t usually watch it anyway.
I paid the bargain price of £6.99 for my brand new DVD with free postage on EBay so do shop around for a bargain.
The film was Produced by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Mann, Will Smith and James Lassiter. It was Directed by Peter Berg. The film has a running time of 1 hour 28 minutes which I felt was a good length as the film was not dragged out at any point. There is a 12 rating on the film as there is some moderate violence, strong language and crude humour. I do agree with this rating and feel it is very unsuitable for younger viewers.
I recommend this film to all fans of Will Smith as he looks very hot in his black costume and to anyone who enjoys a good funny film with a great story line.
