After the success that H20 had revitialising the Halloween franchise there was no doubt that it wouldn't be the last we would see of Michael Myers. The question was how they would do it after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) decapitated her brother at the end of the aforenamed film.
This film begins two years after the previous film and Laurie lives in a world of her own locked up in Smiths Grove Sanitarium. She has no contact with the outside world, and speaks to no one. The only thing on her mind is the knowledge that her brother will come for her one day soon. And now its Halloween again. So right on cue, he turns up, head intact. But this time she has been expecting him, so she lures him to the roof to destroy him, but things dont quite go to plan.
Another year later, and Michael Myers lives in the sours beneath his old house in Haddonfield. The house itself has sat empty for many years, and is about to become the focus of a web broadcast which is being set up by Tyra Banks and Busta Rymes. They have set up 6 students to take part in the broadcast where they have to rummage around the house and look for clues that will lead them to why Myers killed in the first place. Of course its not long before the kids realise that they have been set up, and that the evidence is a plant by Rymes. But by then, its too late as Myers is already on to them and the killing starts all over again.
The film came on the back of My Little Eye which used the webcam style to greater effect. But that doesn't mean that HR doesn't have its share of shocks or a few good kill scenes. Its Curtis that is criminally underused. Her performance over 25 years and 4 films has kept horror fans the world over glued to these films, and her much too swift demise at the start of this film is cruel and and underdeveloped. Which is a real shame, because she shines more than anybody else in this film. The film itself feels clunky, and all of the characters are cliches that wouldn't be out of place in some of the poorer entries in the series. As it is, they are working on a script for Halloween 9, which is rumoured to have Jamie Lee Curtis return, and even though this film has a few good scares, and some quirky dialogue, you just cant help wishing that Michael would die already.

Advantages: Amazingly brings some new ideas to the series, quite intriguing for an hour, second best in the series Disadvantages: slasher movies are so...'80s', blood and gore seems somewhat minimal, does the world need more of these movies?
Advantages: Amazingly brings some new ideas to the series, quite intriguing for an hour, second best in the series Disadvantages: slasher movies are so...'80s', blood and gore seems somewhat minimal, does the world need more of these movies?
Advantages: Myers is kept in the shadows and is once again fear-inducing, great death scenes, watchable acting. Disadvantages: If you don't like Horror films, those flaws plague this movie as well.
