I've asked to leave because I think the site's got too much arguing and bitching and I've started to get dragged in and don't want to. I joined for fun and to practice my writing and life's too short for the stress. I wish you all happiness. Mel x

The film starts from the point of view of a young boy - Michael Myers - does that mean anything to you yet??? We see how the whole nightmare begins through his eyes with the killing of his older sister. The trademark heavy breathing motif starts here and is the only sound we hear from creepy Michael throughout the fim.
Jamie Lee Curtis excellently plays Laurie, a student who babysits on that fateful Halloween night when Michael escapes from the mental institute and comes back to town. The good, clean-living heroine she is every bit as angelic as she first appears (if you don't hold a small bout of cannabis smoking against her). After she puts the keys to his old deserted house under the doormat as a favour to her estate agent father Michael begins to watch and stalk her. He eventually follows her to the house where she is babysitting after attacking her friends.
Michael is deliberately kept de-humanised. He is mainly seen in shadow, never speaks and wears a ghostly white mask for much of the film. We often see the aftermath of his deeds without watching him carry them out and he moves in a stiff unlifelike way. He becomes the 'boogey man' which the children Laurie babysits speak of. His psychiatrist describes him as beyond reason, which seems a fair reckoning of this shell of a being.
The end of the film is a masterpiece of suspense and fear. You find yourself willing Laurie to win the game of cat and mouse she winds up playing in the house alone with Michael and feel her pain and exhaustion as she tries to get away.
This film has the best soundtrack - the famous and instantly recognisable tune that has since been copied by many. That and the screaming makes for a tension building experience that keeps you peeping from behind your hands in terror. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a weak heart as a genre defining and satisfying film.

this is the scariest and most disturbing horror movie ever. My cruel 6 years older brother woke me up as an 8 year old saying 'Jack come and see this great film' so I went and watched it with him. I almost needed counselling....
Advantages: Score, FX, Acting, Not A Straight-forward Re-Make... Disadvantages: Acting, Repetitive Obscenities, It Will Always Remain Inferior To The Original...
