I saw the first Halloween film about 4 or 5 years ago, and I really liked what I saw! It was full of action, and one of the scariest films I had ever seen.
When I first heard that this was going to be on TV I was really looking forward to it, as the first Halloween is one of my favourite horror films. I wasn't too disappointed; it is quite a good film. Not as good as the original but not bad at all. I do like it enough to have bought it on DVD though. :-)

So, the plot of the original film was… Michael Myers has been in an institution since he was a young boy for murdering his sister, but now he has escaped. He goes back to his hometown of Haddonfield to terrorise the quiet community, and his sister Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis.

But back to this film…
This film starts exactly where the original took off from, with Dr. Loomis shooting Michael six times or so. After her torment from the previous film (or a few minutes ago), Laurie goes to a clinic to rest, and recover from the shock of that night. While she is there, she starts to wonder why Michael is after her, and wants to kill her so badly. While she is there, she starts to fall in love with a driver at the clinic, Jimmy.
Meanwhile, while Dr. Loomis and the Haddonfield police search the town looking for Michael, who upon hearing that Laurie is still alive, makes his way back to the clinic to try and get to Laurie. On his way, he has to murder the staff that will stand in his way, to make a clear path for him to get to her. One of the nurses, Nurse Marrion, arrives to give Dr. Loomis the key answer to Michael's madness, but is also there to order him back to Smith's Grove. Now Loomis has to get back and try to find Michael, but can he get there in time, before Michael gets to Laurie?

Visual Effects-
The visual effects in this film are good; there is certainly a lot more blood in this one than in the original. In this film, Michael looks scarier and creepier than the first film, even if it is meant to be just a few hours ago. And Laurie looks older, even though she has got a lot more make up on trying to cover her face, and to get that teenage look back to her.

Music/Sounds-
The music in this film isn't as good as the first one. It doesn't send chills down your spine like it did in the original, well not to me anyway. The theme song in the original is one of the best themes ever, to any film that I have seen.

Running Time-
To me, this film is way too short, at just an hour and a half. It may sound like quite a long time, but with this kind of film you want it to last for longer, rather than having a quick ending, that leaves you wandering.

Acting-
The acting in this film is very good. It certainly isn't one of them cheesy 70's or 80's movies where the women run around screaming waving their arms in the air, when you know they are going to run into the bogeyman and get slaughtered.
It isn't too predictable, well it is predictable, but it isn't obvious like a lot of horror films that are out there.

Gruesome Rating-
If I had to give this a rating out of 10 for the level of gruesome stuff in this film, I would give it 9/10.
It contains stuff like:
A couple of doctors get their eyeballs gouged out with needles (very nice),
A cop gets his throat slit with a knife,
A teen girl gets a knife rammed into her throat,
As you can see there is quite a lot of gruesome stuff in this film. It's definitely not for the faint hearted, and guys, don't watch this with your wife or girlfriend if they are the screamish type because they will do your head in screaming every five minutes!

Enough about the film, onto the actual DVD...

Quality of the DVD-
The quality is brilliant. There are no glitches (that i have come across anyway), and the picture is perfectly clear. Much better than when it has been on TV. Although you would expect the TV quality to been not as good, as you have to deal with weather conditions, and problems with the aerial. Also, when skipping through chapters of the DVD, it doesn't take ages to load like on some DVD's, it loads up straight away.
The sound is also excellent. You can hear every detail, including the sound of the flesh being sliced (sorry if you're eating)
No improvements could of been made to the quality of the DVD.

Special Features-
The DVD comes with a couple of extra features, they are:
Biographies of some of the cast members,
Commentaries from horror-expert Stephen Jones, and film-critic Kim Newman (if you dont know who he is he is the author of the B.F.I companion To Horror),
Detailed production Background written by Stephen Jones

I would recommend this to fans of gruesome horror films, but it may not appeal to people that aren't too big on horror/gruesome films.

Runtime: 92 min
Country: USA
Language: English
Color: Color
Sound Mix: Dolby
Certificate: 18

Overall I would give this film 7/10. I don't have much else to say apart from… Thanks for reading folks!
