Advantages: Great story, set in England, Great acting, special effects Disadvantages: It ended
bring down the oppressive government, by blowing up the houses of parliament on the 5th November as Guy fawkes originally did. The film also closely follows a detective tracking V called Finch.
The lives of all the main characters are brought together by the end of the film and the final scene is my favourite and practically involves the entire population of London and some good special effects but Ill say no more as not to spoil the film.
There are many powerful messages presented in the film such as the future we could be facing due to fear and the power that ideas can have. I really liked how they adapted the plot around a historic event celebrated in our country as bonfire night and there are many references to the saying ?remember remember the 5th of November?.
I found out that the film was based on the novel ?V for Vendetta ...
Advantages: Great casting, brilliant script, great story Disadvantages: Lesbians (not a disadvantage for me but could be to others), a few focal themes from the book lost
Tipping the Velvet was a BBC series based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Waters.
The story line follows the tale of Victorian lesbian Nan Astley, who falls in love with a male impersonator from her local music hall and after befriending her, follows her to London. There they fall into a relationship, and Nan becomes a part of the show under the name Nan King. Their love, however, if not meant to be, and the plot continues...
I personally adored this and thought it a brilliant adaptation from the book, which I read after I saw the series.
The acting is superb and the casting is some of the best I've ever seen. Nancy herself is fantastic, with a cherubic sort of face and a slight androgyny to her body she is perfect for the role, especially since she has such a low voice. Kitty is stunning, and it's easy to see why Nan falls ...
Advantages: True To life - none stereotypical lesbians Disadvantages: Could be portrayes as a little "below the Belt" at times
At last a good DVD where the cast if not full of "shaven headed stereotypical lesbians". Rachael Stirling, Keeley Hawes, Jodhi May and Anna Chancellor star in Tipping The Velvet which was shown on BBC2 and is available on DVD.
When it was shown on BBC2 it was shown in 3 separate episodes over 3 weeks. Out of the 3 episodes episode 2 is the most graphical (certainly not for the shy amongst us).
Set in England in the 1890's, Tipping The Velvet is a colourful, passionate and entertaining love story about Nan (Rachael Stirling) a young girl whos family own an oyster business in Cornwall. As Nan enters her early twenties she that she is attracted to women, not to men.
The 19th century music hall provides the backdrop for Nan's first love affair with Kitty (Keeley Hawes), a popular male impersonator music hall star. Nan first ...
