Introduction =========
I remember first seeing this film and laughing my head off at it so when I noticed it was available on DVD I had to purchase it. Upon watching it a second time I was still howling with laughter.
I had forgotten how good Bill Murray could be, I had watched Garfield recently and that brought back how funny he was, this is one of his best, I think personally.
The Plot ======
Phil Connors is a weatherman and every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania he covers the annual groundhog festival. The groundhog can supposedly predict the coming of an early spring, either by seeing or not seeing a shadow.
Phil hates covering the groundhog festival and feels that it is beneath him, he crew Larry the cameraman and Rita the producer do not seem to like him much either. A blizzard prevents them all from leaving Punxsutawney and Phil wakes up the next day to discover it's Groundhog Day again.
Phil goes along with it again as he believes to be déjà vu but when his alarm goes off the next morning, it's still Groundhog Day, and the next day and the next day and the next day.
Phil is the only person who realises the day is being repeated and he discovers what can be achieved in just one day.
Characters ========
Phil Connors - Bill Murray Rita - Andie McDowell Larry - Chris Elliott
Bill Murray gives and excellent performance as the prim Donna weatherman and we are able to watch as Phil goes on his journey of self discovery of what you can get, what you can do, what you can learn, how you can change and how to kill yourself.
I have never really enjoyed Andie McDowell in anything because I find that she is never available to give an outstanding performance. To me I feel that she is holding back on the character that she plays and could offer so much more to the role.
Chris Elliott is a cameraman who never seems to know what to do with women. Chris Elliott gives another good performance as I very much enjoyed his performance later on in his career in There's Something About Mary.
Extras =====
Director's Commentary The Weight of Time Documentary - talks to the cast and crew about the making of the film and how they were able to make the audience feel the weight of time for Phil. Filmographies - details of the other films the cast has done. Trailer - Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters and Multiplicity Animated Menus
Overview =======
This DVD is rated PG so is there suitable for most of the family and I bought this DVD for £4.99 from Asda.
If anyone thinks that watching a film about the same day is going to be boring then you could not be more wrong. The comedy of the film makes you want to know what will happen on the next Groundhog Day.
The film follows the mental changes in Phil throughout his time on Groundhog Day from what he can gain everyday because there are no consequences for him. His suicidal phase is hilarious especially when he realises that he is just going to wake up again at 6am on February 2nd (Groundhog day).
The film has been produced in such a way that the viewer can feel the torment of re-living the same day over and over again. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and will probably watch this again in the future; I highly recommended this film for anyone who would enjoy a good comedy.
Thanks ford reading.
