I have to admit to being a huge fan of Bill Murray's movies, although recent years have seen his virtual disappearance(well I havent seen him anyway) in favour of the new batch of comic actors. Groundhog day was one of his best in my opinion, an amiable comedy with a high charm factor, relying upon pure comdey rather than the current crop of lavatorial humour which Hollywood seems insistent upon throwing at us. As a result, thisis a movie which should have pretty much universal appeal, and for me, it certainly does.
What would you do if everyday you woke up to find the same things being replayed over and over again? Well this is what happens to TV weatherman Phil(Murray), when he is sent to Punxsutawney, Philadelphia to cover the Groundhog ay Festival. Phil is grinch, hating all this kind of thing and when it turns out that a blizzard is going to force them to stay in thetown one more night, he is naturally none too pleased. Even less so when he wakes up the next morning to find that it is Groundhog Day again and that he is stuck in a time loop which means that every morning will be the same - he will wake up to the sound of "I Got You Babe" on the radio. Even having tried various methods of suicide the result is always the same. Eventually he comes to accept things and tries to milk the situation, taking piano lessons, memorising the answers to Jeopardy and then trying to woo Andi McDowell in 24 hours...but no matter how far he gets, the result is always the same next morning, and once more he has to start over again.
Groundhog day is a fun movie, with some great comic moments. Murray is...well Murray throughout, you know what to expect and McDowell injects a high charm factor into the preceedings, to make for a pretty entertaining couple of hours. Its good fun...and its wholesome fun too, so suitable for all the family and well worth checking out if you have a spare couple of hours...
...just not everyday ok?

Advantages: Very Funny, good film for all the family Disadvantages: Can get a little repetitive just for a few minutes, some of my friends found it very irritating
