Season 3 of Grey's Anatomy comes back with all the intensity of the first series for me and really kicks it up a gear. The characters relationships really begin to gel and get more complicated and so lend themselves to better storylines I feel in this series. We also get a lot of background knowledge on the characters that we previously never had which shows us why they are in the situations they find themselves now.

If you are not familiar with Grey's it is a medical drama set in the fictional Seattle Grace hospital in Seattle. (It is actually filmed in California with some of the outdoor shots done in Seattle). The show is based around one of the main interns, Meredith Grey whose mother previously worked at the hospital too and was a brilliantly respected doctor. We find out in this series that she had a long and complicated affair with Chief Webber, Meredith's boss! They actually have quite a few touching moments throughout the show as the Chief takes a protective view over Meredith which is nice to see.

Izzie's patient from the last series, Denny, passes away in a bit of a scandalous way and Izzie is heartbroken. She mopes in her room like Izzie does very well until she receives some shocking news. Denny was rich and as a result has left Izzie millions of dollars. The only problem, she doesn't want it and to have it is causing her stress!! She gets a little bit irritating during these episodes when she tries to decide whether or not to keep the money. It would be a bit of a no-brainer for me but I guess this is TV land. An idea soon surfaces that has mutual benefits for two doctors. Dr Bailey wants to do something to really make a difference and comes up with the idea of a free clinic for those Seattle residents who don't have access to paid healthcare but she needs capital, just where is she going to find some spare dollars?!!!

Christina and Burke get more serious in this season as well. They had just starting dating at the end of Season 2 so this next year is really delving into their situation. They seem quite a weird pairing to me. He is her superior and her teacher and it's often hard to separate work and play. She is quite stand-offish and not very romantic etc whereas he is and it's difficult to see how their relationship will work. At no time really does it ever seem important to her and that to me is hard. In the final episode of the season they make it to the aisle but will they go through with it???

Alex Karev the unfeeling doctor tends to a pregnant lady who was hurt in an explosion and had badly damaged her face. No one knows who she is, can Alex find out without agenda?

George has moved on after his crush on Meredith and has his sights set on Callie Torrez, the new orthopaedic surgeon. I don't really place these two together either as they are just too different, but I guess that is part of the appeal of the show. George is upset after the passing of his father and turns to Callie and their relationships really moves fast forward at high speed! George however might have some feelings for Izzie and so another love triangle begins at Seattle Grace!
Again, I still find the show extremely fast paced and the medical scenes are both breathtaking and unbelievable at times but fairly groundbreaking and interesting to watch. Season 3 I think is better than Season 2 and really carries on the good work of Season 1 when the show was new and fresh. Season 3 keeps its freshness and really develops the characters. I have not yet bored of them. I think you will probably need to watch Seasons 1 and 2 to really understand who the characters are, the backgrounds and what is going on but it is quite easy to pick up if you start on Season 3.

The third season ended on May 17, 2007. The DVD came out on the 15th September 2008. There are seven discs in the DVD box set for Season 3. Special features include outtakes, deleted scenes, and the cast members favourite scenes, to name but a few. The DVD is available at Amazon at the moment for around £30.

I'm sorry for the H, but for this to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in the same detail as your review of the film, not just a passing mention of them.
