Greatest Ever Fantasy Films Collection (Box Set) (DVD)

Contains the fantasy films NANNY MCPHEE, THE GRINCH, LABYRINTH, PETER PAN, and JUMANJI.
In NANNY MCPHEE, a recently widowed Mr Brown employs the services of a nanny in the hope...
more...that order will be restored to his household and his seven children. However, the children have other ideas having already dispatched seventeen nannies, who also thought that they knew better. Unfortunately the children have met their match, Nanny McPhee has special powers.
In THE GRINCH, the title character is a a foul-tempered green and hairy creature, who lives on Mount Crumpit and hates Christmas almost as much as the residents of Whoville, the town at the bottom of his mountain. One night he decides to steal Christmas away from the Whos by taking all their decorations, presents and Christmassy things. However he soon learns a valuable lesson about the true spirit of the festive season.
In LABYRINTH, a young woman wishes her baby brother would be taken away by goblins. Her wish comes true and now she must rescue him by going through the forbidding passages of the labyrinth to reach the goblin castle of the mighty wizard king.
In PETER PAN, Peter has a sense of longing and a desire to be loved. The object of his affection is Wendy Darling, a pre-teen in Edwardian London with a penchant for telling dazzling tales to her younger brothers. When Mr. Darling decides that Wendy should live with her Aunt Millicent in order to become a proper lady, Peter takes the Darling children to Neverland, where all of the characters in Wendy's stories actually exist. The trio embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, flying through the skies, encountering nasty mermaids, and enduring Tinker Bell's hijinx. Along with the Lost Boys, the Darling children take on Captain Hook, Peter Pan's arch nemesis, and his band of pirates.
In JUMANJI, a simple act of rolling the dice on an old board-game from the loft triggers an amazing adventure for young Judy and Peter as they reactivate a hoard of wild animals and the wild-looking Alan Parrish who was transported to the jungles of Jumanji years ago while playing on the same board.

PINK PANTHER COLLECTION

Advantages: EXTRAS, ALL THE FILMS ARE THERE
Disadvantages: NONE

If you are a pink panther or peter sellers fan get this in your collection now, it has everything, all the films a nice load of extras and comes packaged really nicely. The films are all really good and some of which you will remember from being shown around christmas on tv. The price is very cheap and very reasonable value for money. There are no real special effects due to the age of the films in question. Dont watch the modern versions of the pink panther film stick to the original as peter sellers is a master. Please please please buy this collection now and make sure that you watch all the special features, i am sure you will not be able to put the films down once you start ...

The Hammer Collection Box Set

Advantages: An aesthetically pleasing collection
Disadvantages: Some rather poor inclusions

A selection of classic Hammer films from the very good to...not so good. An aesthetically pleasing set for fans of the studio, or those wanting at least half of the titles. Features star favourites Peter Cushing, Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress and Christopher Lee (about whom there is an interesting documentary with 'Scars of Dracula'). The extra features vary greatly, the biggest ommission, in my opinion, is the total absence of subtitles for the hearing impaired. For those who are interested all films are anamorphic, some for the first time, and completely uncut. My personal favourite was the inclusion of the 1965 film 'The Nanny' which stars a very chilling Bette Davis in a well scripted, and often overlooked role. Probably a tad overpriced for most, but new DVD versions of individual films are also available, so take ...

Review of The Hammer Collection (Box Set) (DVD)

Box set of Box sets!

Advantages: Slap stick comedy, laughter, classic films
Disadvantages: None

Wow what can i say, i've been a Pink Panther fan for a few years but never really sat and watched a whole film let alone series. So i asked for the box set for my birthday and so it arrived! I wont bore you going in to details of all of the films but what i can say is Peter Sellers is a genius in his portrail of Inspector clouseau. His ability to invoke laughter, use of language, props and his accent is up there with the best of all time. Also it comes with the final Pink Panther which was filmed after Peter Sellers died and was made up of outtakes in a kind of tribute to clouseau. I didnt think this film would work but its probably one of the best of the lot. Personally i didnt find the first Pink Panther to interesting because the characters were trying to find their feet. One final note has to go to Cato, expect him to ...
