Solo keeps wondering what this old man is trying to do,wonders where his families are and gradually become friends with him.William in turn leaves his home and wants to move to a motel. The night moves on when Williams has to accompany Solo and eventually has to stay over at Solo's place for one night.
The next day he moves into a motel and the story moves forward as Solo and he becomes closer and closer with Solo trying to know about his past and his life. This is more like a family film with the director focussing on various relationships,Solo's relation with his girlfriend and his step daughter whom he loves to bits. On the other side, Williams is a lonely guy with something that has been bothering him.He tries to help Solo in whatever way he can and also becomes attached to his daughter.
There is friction between both just before its the 20th of the month and the one wonders if Solo is actually going to accompany Williams for his last journey.Solo realizes that Williams is going to end his life and tries his best to inquire and plead him out of it. You have to see the film to know how it ends up,i will just say it is one subtle ending.I loved the fact that it is not melodramatic at any point and chooses to be realistic at every opportunity.
This is a beautiful film but it does actually get monotonous at times. The pace is slow and might not work for many.

Review
GOODBYE SOLO is a deceptive film. Its style is spare, rigorous, almost anti-dramatic, but it deals thoughtfully with some of the most complex elements of the human equation (Los Angeles Times, 04/06/2009)
The story told in GOODBYE SOLO, Ramin Bahrani's wonderful third feature, is moving and mysterious, and you may find yourself pondering its implications for a long time after the film's simple and haunting final images have faded (New York Times, 04/06/2009)
Like all of Bahrani's films, GOODBYE SOLO is visually simple and stunning....But more important, GOODBYE SOLO is driven by deep feeling and sensitivity (Washington Post, 04/06/2009)
