In his four years with S019 the Metropolitan Police Special Firearms Wing Steve Collins ... more
has been in over a thousand contacts: that is gun battles with Yardies; IRA gunmen; East End gangsters such as the notorious Arifs and their hitmen; drug smugglers from South America and elsewhere; and lone gunmen who have simply gone berserk. A judge commending the bravery of Steve's team said "If only the public knew the calibre of the men that protect them". S019 protects us from chaos and violence London. These groups are expert in firearms operations in an urban environment - the SAS come to them for training. to him. It contains a wad of hundred-dollar bills and the name and photograph of the "target". While he is still sitting at the bar, trying to figure out what to do, the real assassin enters the bar, spots the manila envelope and mistakes him for the guy trying to hire his services.
What follows is a roller-coaster of a chase, as Tim tries to outwit the trained, professional killer and keep the intended victim out of his grasp.
Why has the killer got so many resources at his fingertips? Why would anyone want this ordinary woman dead? And what secret is the seemingly mild mannered stonemason Tim hiding that makes him such a formidable adversary for this assassin?
The Book
This is a real page-turner, the kind of book that would have kept me up until the wee hours in my single/younger days (before I became a Mum of twins ...
Advantages: Easy to read and good page turner Disadvantages: None really apart from possibly Linda
~~*~~ The GoodGuy ~~*~~
When the going gets tough, I go to bed and read a book. Sometimes Piggy (the greatest chocolate lab ever) accompanies me but she tends to read out loud which is just plain irritating. I don?t sit down and read unless it?s a really good story or the telly?s on the blink so I don?t have a great knowledge of the literary world but I do know what I like.
The Author
I?ve read a number of Koontz?s books and though he?s generally thought of as a bit of a crap Stephen King, I don?t think he?s that bad. Rolling Stone magazine once titled him ?America?s most popular suspense novelist? which is nice, perhaps it?s because the books are easy to read and to return to if like me you?re too knackered most nights to read. The stories aren?t particularly memorable in my opinion which is why I?m struggling to remember ...
Advantages: Silly rom com with elements of hilarity Disadvantages: Standard plot, storyline and characters which we've all seen before
I purchased this film from Play for just under a fiver, i probably wouldnt spend anymore than this on it. Ok i was in one of those rom com moods, i had just splurged some well earned doe on 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', 'Zack & Mirri' and other associated rom coms and happily clicked on the 'similar films' icon to find this one sitting there. Needless to say i bought it!
The tag line of 'Who will he take up the aisle' gave the story away immediately but i didnt care, reading the blurb made me call up my buddy and get him round for another one of those chinese food and two guys watching a rom com, nothing wrong with it. The girlfriend was out and she doesnt really like films that much, especially ones i buy. Ive actually agreed to throw out one of my toy godfather figures if she watches the trilogy, not gonna happen! Its a safe bet ...
