I decided to hire this out on video, after reading a lot of different opinions on the film, I thought I would see for myself. The star of the film is Nicholas Cage, who has appeared in many films, one of my favorites was Con-air. Nicholas plays (Randal Raines) his nick name is Memphis, he is a retired car thief who has to go back to stealing to save his brothers life, as he has got involved with a bad lot. He is given the task of stealing 50 cars in a couple of days to save his brother. This film is not just for car lovers, even though I must admit there is some beautiful ones in the film. He gets together with some old friends in the know how to help him achieve the goal. He has a detective from his past watching his every move, which makes him very nervous. Memphis has a thing about a particular car, which is a 1967 Shelby mustang GT 500, which he has never been able to get his hands on. He manages to find one and names it Eleanor, as with all the cars he and his buddies have given them all girls names, and have a blackboard with all 50 cars to be stolen listed.
The film has plenty of fast car chases and crashes which are wonderfully filmed, very exciting. It also has comedy sketches, which are really amusing, and did make me laugh a lot. There is not a lot of violence, which is nice. The whole film centers on the theft of the cars and how the detective keeps missing his chance on catching Memphis and really there is not much more you can say about it. All the characters are likeable and give good performances. So who else is in the film well here goes:
Angelina Jolie – also starred in Girl interrupted and The bone collector. Gioyanni Ribisi – He plays the brother called Kip and has appeared in the sit com (Friends) Delroy Lindo – He plays the detective and starred in the film Get Shorty. Vinnie Jones – He plays The Sphinx one Nicholas Cages buddies and has been in lock, stock and two smoking barrels. Will Patton - Christopher Eccleston – Robert Duval .
My opinion was that it is entertaining and exiting, action packed through out, I would probably watch it again some time. One of my favorite parts in the film was the scene where the dog eat a set of car keys, so they had to give it some laxatives to make it go, before they could get the keys to steal a particular car. The ending was good as Nicholas does save his brothers life, and in return he buys him his dream car, even though it needs a lot of work doing. Those of you that have seen the film, will no exactly what I mean. My final comment is that I think it is worth watching, but that’s my opinion.
Bye for now Deni
