Advantages: Brosnan is a complete Bond package Disadvantages: Too long away
...the new James Bond and Goldeneye was released in 1995.
The Plot
James Bond 007 and his fellow agent Alec Trevelyan, 006, infiltrate a chemical facility, but only 997 escapes, with Trevelyan being captured and shot. Nine years later, Bond finds himself searching for the Colonel who killed 006. He is now a General, and has stolen the systems controlling the dual Goldeneye satellite weapons. Bond must survive against the mysterious Janus, whom the ... ...Bond, and just look at Goldeneye as a film regardless of anythign else, I would still be impressed. Brosnan's Bond is equipped with flashier gadgets and cars, and the music is slightly changed, with Bond composer John Barry turning down the opportunity to proovide the music throughout the film, and leaving it to Eric Sierra, whose take on the Bond music is refreshing. Tina Turner provides the vocals for the title track, which was written by Bono ...

Advantages: Robbie Coltrane Disadvantages: Death of Q
...James Bond is back for the nineteenth time and Pierce Brosnan returns for his third crack at the suave secret agent. The World Is Not Enough is the best Bond film so far with enormous action sequences which is balanced by a plot that has interesting twists and turns. Robert Carlyle plays the evil villain Renard with great gusto but in my opinion Pierce Brosnan and Robert Carlyle are upstaged by Robbie Coltrane who reprises the role he played in Goldeneye. While the James Bond formula is always predictable it is always watchable. extras on the DVD include a making of documentary and a tribute to the late Desmond Llewelyn....

Advantages: A lot of fun Disadvantages: A bit of a mess in places
...to shooting Remington Steele instead of doing Bond. Dalton had replaced him and played Bond in The Living Daylights but now Brosnan was replacing Dalton. The James Bond persona and numerous 007 rumours had followed the darkly handsome actor for several years and now for 1995's GoldenEye he would finally take the role he had coveted for so long.
GoldenEye begins in the best possible way. A spectacular bungee jump from a dam announces that Bond is back. The pre-credit sequence is a flashback set in the former Soviet Union. 007 is on a mission with Alec Trevelyan aka '006' (Sean Bean) to destroy a chemical weapons factory. It's great fun to see Brosnan finally playing James Bond and although the pre-credit sequence does get a bit ludicrous towards the end you let them off because it's been six years and they obviously wanted to throw the kitchen sink...

Advantages: Great film, good extras Disadvantages: Less extras than other Bond DVD's
...is still perfect with all the explosions and gun shots lovely to the human ear.
• Subtitles:
Subtitles come thick and fast on this DVD with English + 10 other languages (most of Europe) except French, German and Spanish. Some DVD's I've seen edit the subtitles. This doesn't seem to though I should point out that I've only watched certain parts with subtitles enabled.
The Extras
~~~~~~~~
As with all of the Bond DVD's, Goldeneye comes with a myriad of features. Though it doesn't contain as many as "The World is Not Enough" it does contain some very interesting features. As expected the Goldeneye music video is included sung by the diva herself Tina Turner - full screen and no notable picture faults. There are 2 trailers for the film and for once they are not almost identical, and are quite entertaining. 12 Television ads also accompany...
