Advantages: Funny, nice to see "normal" Girls Aloud Disadvantages: Swearing, not suitable for their younger fans
Girls Aloud's fame is increasing, and the public and demanding more and more of Britain's most popular girl band since the Spice Girls. So Girls Aloud came up with their new documentary series, called Girls Aloud: Off The Record, which was to be shown on E4 on TV in 2006. The show was a success and they released a DVD of the show, containing 6 episodes, plus the pilot episode which I don't believe was shown on TV.
The show shows us ... ...best girl band, following the girls making appearances on TV, travelling around the world and enjoying down time with their families and partners, and preparing for their first ever tour as a band. However, the show is aimed more towards the older fans of Girls Aloud. There is a lot of swearing from the girls, and you are shown video of the girls after nights out partying when they are drunk, so perhaps not one to show your kiddies.

The show was a success and they released a DVD of the show, containing 6 episodes, plus the pilot episode which I don't believe was shown on TV.
The show shows us all for the first time what it is like to be in Britains best girl band, following the girls making appearances on TV, travelling around the world and enjoying down time with their families and partners, and preparing for their first ever tour as a band. However, the show is aimed more towards the older fans of Girls Aloud. There is a lot of swearing from the girls, and you are shown video of the girls after nights out partying when they are drunk, so perhaps not one to show your kiddies.
Over the course of the series, we see the girls heading off to Ibiza to perform in Ibizian clubs, flying to China with London's Mayor Ken Livingstone, and meeting the locals in Greece and doing a bit of sight-seeing.
I really liked the fact that we see the girls being natural as well. Cheryl takes us home with her to Newcastle on a flying visit, and it is sad how upset she gets that she doesn't get to see her family enough. The scenes with her and her nephew make you realise how much family life they have to sacrifice. There is also a funny incident involving Cheryl and a pupy!
We also see Kimberley at her London flat she shares with her boyfriend Justin. Nicola also heads home and we meet some of her family too. Sarah gives us a few laughs when the grils are allowed to test drive some fast sports cars....cringingly embarassing!
The girls also released a single when the documentary was being filmed, Whole Lotta History. We see them on the shoot for the video, and then seeing the video for the first time. Nicola whinges a lot saying she looks terrible but the other girls are quick to reassure her. We also see their reactoin to the songs Number 6 chart position, Nadine seems very unimpressed but Cheryl seems thrilled!
I must say the documentary is definitely focused on Cheryl Tweedy and her fiance Ashley Cole, but many argue that these are the two the public follow most out of all the girls. Nadine's high profile relationship with Jesse Metcalfe is mentioned but Nadine is clearly trying to avoid it being spoken about throughout the documentary. Sarah's "friend" Calum Best makes a brief appearance but Sarah does have a go at him off camera, then he comes back pretending everything is fine!
Seeing the girls in China was very interesting as the crowd had no idea who they were and weren't overly interested. The girls didnt really like this, and Nadine was very annoyed that she thought it was their worst appearance by far. It is interesting to see them trying to adapt to other cultures. They also travel to Australia to promote their single, and visit some Koala bears.
Overall I think the show is a great insight into what the Girls get up to, not only in the UK but around the world too. They are seen acting normally, enjoying normal life with families but also working hard for the band. But dont forget...we are only seeing what the Girls and their record company want us to see...
The DVD is selling for around 12 pounds on Amazon, but I am sure if you hunt around you could find it cheaper. A great DVD for fans of Girls Aloud.
PS. The theme song for the series was the Girls Aloud song "Models" which can be found on their Something Kinda Ooh single and their album Chemistry.

Advantages: An insight into a modern day girl group Disadvantages: Didnt really show you too much, felt like the whole band was holding back something
...about this dvd and about girls aloud in general until i watched this dvd.I was really blown away by the songs, the outfits and just general performance.
I felt this dvd from 2006 showed the edgier sound and style of girls aloud, the whole dvd had a more mature sound and feel to it that I was expecting. This dvd really provided an insight into girls aloud, and I have to say they were all completely different to what I was expecting, they were actually ... ...not cover a massive period of time (april to may ish time 2006),it still alowed you a sort of birds eye view into girls aloud and their world, which I found insightful to say the least.
Not something you would watch again and again, but definately workth watching at least once ...

...into the lives of these girls which was a real rags to riches story. It was nice to see all aspects of their lives and especially getting to see them with their families makes it so much easier to connect with them, and I am sure that this seriers will have only done great things for their popularity and career. It was really facinating to see them in other countries as Im sure many others are like me when I say that I expected them to be just as ... ...the band handled it really well, and it is nice to know that it doesn't always come that easy to people even if they are famous as Girls Alound.
All in all I thought that this was a brillian watch and I will deffinaltey be recommending this to people. ...
