Gimme, Gimme, Gimmetook situation comedy to new peaks of vulgarity when it returned for a ... more
third and final series in 2001, thanks to the full-on performances of James Dreyfus (Tom) and Kathy Burke (Linda) who suck up Jonathan Harvey's innuendo-laden scripts and spit them out like a couple of thespian tornados. "I don't think anything could relax my lips, baby," leers Burke, milking the endless supply of double entendres. "Mind you, after a couple of vodkas they're usually flapping around like flip-flops."Tom's descent into self-parody--when he looks in the mirror, he sees the new Noel Coward--can have only one logical conclusion: the offer of a bit-part inCrossroadswhich eventually splits up this dysfunctional friendship. Sex-crazed Linda is deluded beyond all reason--when she looks in the mirror, she sees Catherine Zeta Jones--and here we finally get some insight into the reasons behind her grotesque traits: visits from her old Borstal wing governor (the excellent Ann Mitchell, sending up herWidowscharacter), and the long-lost son she gave up for adoption.Like all successful comedy,Gimme, Gimme, Gimmehas its dark side. It also becomes increasingly surreal as the episodes pass: Tom fails miserably in a walk-on role in a conceptual Japanese drama presented in a fire station; and Linda turns the back garden into a campsite. Sophisticated it isn't, but it's often wickedly hilarious and occasionally brilliant. On the DVD:Gimme, Gimme, Gimmeis presented in standard 14:9 format with a stereo soundtrack, replicating the sitcom viewing experience. Apart from the episode index, there are no extras. At the very least biographies of Harvey, Burke and Dreyfus would have been useful. --Piers Ford

Gimme, Gimme,Gimme. ================== A Great British comedy.
One of the funniest British comedies in the last decade.
The plot is very simple; Linda shares a flat with Tom.
LINDA ===== Linda is a great big trollop with the manners of a diuretic pig and all the subtlety of a large brick through several plate glass windows. Once described as a slapper on Viagra, she is a real man-eater. Believing herself to be utterly beautiful, she is often confused by people's attitude to her looks and loud clothes. A red perm and lycra wardrobe sum her up. Later in series 3 she will be disagnosed with reversed body dysmorphic disorder, which explains a lot. Olive from "On the buses" after a night on the beer would best describe her. But sadly, all she wants is to be loved.
TOM ==== Tom is a great big Puff, (according to Linda). He is a struggling actor trying to break into television and has even had a walk on part in 'Bad girls', and doesn't he go on about it! The biggest drama queen in the world And bitchy to go with it. Again sadly all he wants is to be loved.
JEZ and SUZE =========== Jez and Suze live down stairs and are sickeningly in love. Often referring to each other as pumpkin, cupcake and sweethams much to the disgust of Tom and Linda. Linda constantly tries to bed Jez much to his horror! They try to be perfect neighbours unaware of how much Tom and Linda hate them.
BERYL ===== Beryl, their landlady and Ex prostitute. She is crude and not at all bothered in reminding everyone of her last profession.
Cast: ==== Linda - Kathy Burke Tom - James Dreyfus Jez - Brian Bovell Suze - Beth Goddard Beryl - Rosalind Knight
There where 3 series with 1 Millennium episode and 1 Comic Relief Special.
Series 3: 2001 ============ 14. Down and Out Simon Shepherd make a guest appearance much to toms delight, he is in love with him. Linda is skint so open the garden to campers and then her prison officer from borstal moves in. Not that funny this one but still watchable.
15. Lollipop Man A very funny episode where Tom is getting ready in his dressing room for a walk on part in a play but never gets to the stage because he gets drunk to calm his nerves. Also, Linda does his make up for him as only she can.
16. Secrets and Flies Suze has her baby in Tom and Linda’s flat much to their disgust. And then out of the blue Linda’s son turns up much to the surprise of everyone including Linda! A good episode with a few surprises along the way.
17. Trauma A hilarious episode which starts with Linda going to hospital with a saucepan stuck on her head, don’t ask. She causes mayhem in the hospital as she tries to get off with the doctors. Tom’s career is finally taking off as he gets a real acting role as last.
18. Singing in the Drain As Tom’s career goes from strength to strength he hires a singing teacher to aid him further. Suze and Linda go to a fashion show with chaotic results.
19. Decoy Finally Tom has made it as he gets a real role in Crossroads and leaves Linda to follow his dream, Linda we find was wearing a wig all along as right at the end she takes it off and gives her head a good scratch!!
Summary: ======== The whole series was impregnated with innuendo and jaw dropping jokes. The jokes are predictable but none the less funny and shocking. A bit like 'Bottom' but without the violent slapstick.
Tom & Linda have a love hate relationship but for all the many insults they realise that no one else could possibly put up with them. Crudity and many vulgar insults are the main stay of the show. Linda often remembers her childhood where she often slept in the dogs kennel and recounts to Tom that her father now spends his last years in an iron lung. The writing in the show is sublime and you can imagine the cast having lots of laughs filming it.
The weekly episodes where not difficult to follow. The show has no social or political axes to grind so just basks in its own madness. The humour and language in the show is not for everyone and some of the jokes and humour might cause offence.
You will need to be an open minded person before you start watching it.
Highly recommended.

Okay so some of you may have seen the television series of GimmeGimmeGimme when it was on TV a few years ago. If you havent then heres a brief overview of what its all about.
You have this really camp guy named Tom Farrell, a budding actor who never has any work and his flatmate Linda La Hughes, the not too good looking red head. However these pair seem to think they are irrisistable and are desperate to find a man.....any man. There is a old women living upstairs who is very saucy and brings back lots of young men, to which this pair dont like and a totally loved up couple next door named Jez and Sooze....think the names explain that they too are crazy. Lynda and Tom both totally fancy Jez and will make advances at every opportunity.
Basically everyone in this program is absolutely crazy and it will have you in stitches ...
