Too Beautiful To Die, Too Wild To Live
Review of Gia DVD by RottenPumpkins

Advantages: Angelina Jolie
Disadvantages: Might not be your type of film

...this powerful, true story called Gia which Jolie had filmed back in 1997 (before she won her Oscar for Girl, Interrupted and became a house-hold name) and apparently this film was her most moving performance AND her most x-rated film Jolie had participated in a film. So, when I finally found this film (it's hard to come by and I almost fainted when I saw this copy at my local independent video shop) I was dying with intrigue to see if all the hype ...
...explain to you guys who Gia is, seeing as none of you guys have probably ever heard of her (I sure as hell didn't have a clue!). Gia Marie Curangi was the first famous supermodel to make it in America, she became a star in her own right: she had attitude, she had the looks, she had her freedom, she lived life on the edge...but along those lines, she also had trouble: troubled relationships with both her mother and girlfriend, insecurity - which led ... Gia- Watch It!
Review of Gia DVD by Gemerina

Advantages: brillant acting and based on a true story
Disadvantages: no special features on the dvd

I first came across Gia in a bargain basket in my local video/dvd rental store and I saw that it starred Angelina Jolie and it was only £3.99 so I thought, why not give it a go. Gia is a film about the life of America's first supermodel Gia Marie Curangi, she became one of the first women in America to contract and die of H.I.V in 1986, she was only 26. It was unclear where she actually contracted the virus from but she was a serious drug abuser ...
...masculine with the air of Gia against the world. As the film progresses you will realise that this is to hide her vulnerability. The film is narrated by her mother (played by Mercedes Ruehl) throughout. The film progresses through the people that Gia meets and how she struggles to find someone to love and how she becomes involved in drugs to help her to cope with the long hours of modelling. Gia meets a woman in the film called Linda with whom she ... Read review

No review could ever do this film justice!
Review of Gia DVD by Linkson83

Advantages: true story,superb acting,highly emotional,unique,unpredictable,thought provoking
Disadvantages: a couple of brutal scenes that may upset and shock some people

...first meet 17 year old Gia she comes across as a rebel, she says what she thinks and doesn't care who it offends, she won't change to enter the modelling world, she doesn't conform to the typical brain dead models, looking like one of the brady bunch, who fill the auditions and agencies. She dresses how she feels comfortable and does her hair how she likes it. If people want her to model for them, they have to take her as she comes. Gia's wild attitude ...
...the fashion industry. Watching Gia you soon realise the harsh, cocky and aggressive personality of Gia is just a front. From a brief section at the beginning of the film you see Gia's mum and dad arguing when Gia is a child. When Gia is 13 years old her mum leaves home and a year later remarries. Gia is split between the two homes throughout her childhood and her only escape is a fantasy world she creates in her diary. She writes about a beautiful, ... Read review

True Story
Review of Gia DVD by fadingstaruk

Advantages: Good cast, great plot
Disadvantages: Not everyone will like the style

...also deals with sexuality - Gia has both boyfriends and girlfriends. Despite all her fame and wealth, she is not happy. She squanders her money on drugs, and her addiction leads to the loss of her friends, family, lover, and - ultimately - her life. We know she is dead from the outset of the film, and the film keeps you gripped throughout until the very sad conclusion. I don't want to give too much away about the plot, but there is a lot of emotion ...
...think all the actors perform well, and it's a strong cast. All fans of Angelina should enjoy this movie. Not many films can make me cry, but this is one that certainly did. It's a film I would recommend, though it has an 18 certificate due to the nature of some of the material in the film. There aren't really any special effects in the film, but since it's based on real life, I wouldn't expect there to be any. The sound track was not one which particularly ... Read review

the true story of Americas first supermodel
Review of Gia DVD by vj2801

Advantages: Great acting, good insight
Disadvantages: Long-winded

Gia is a true story, based on the life and times of Gia Marie Carangi- a young beautiful girl who was thrown into the deep end of the life of a supermodel. It began as a true cinderella story- a girl who hadn't much money and worked in her father's burger bar suddenly and seemingly overnight being transformed into this internation icon. However, the sotry doesn't maintain such a ideal tone... as before long Gia is exposed to the world of Drugs, Sex ...
...world of Supermodels isn't all fancy restaurants and designer clothes. The pretty pictures we see aren't always the truth. This was possibly Angelina's first claim to fame. Her acting abilities are demonstrated to the max. I would really recommend this as a film to definately get and watch. ... Read review
