Ghostbusters II was an equally succesful sequel released 5 years later with the same cast.
It is 5 years on in the story and the Ghostbusters are now defunct. The destruction wrought at the end of their last adventure lead to massive law suits against them and they went broke. Ray and Winston (Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson) now go around entertaining children at birthday parties but even the kids are no-longer interested as the new craze has left Ghostbusters behind. Egon (Harold Ramis) has gone back to being a simple scientist and the cocky and hilarious Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) hosts his own unsuccesful TV show.
However, all changes as Dana Barret (Sigourney Weavet) is back on the scene as the character's main damsel in distress. Her love affair with Peter is revealed tohave failed in the past 5 years and she has had an unsuccesful marriage since then which has given her a child. She is worried about the baby as weird phenomena has surrounded it. She goes to the Ghostbusters for help and during their investigations they discover a river of slime underneath New York city. Coupled with this she also believes a painting in the museum is watching her.
The Ghostbusters regroup and relaunch. The geeky Louis (Rick Moranis) is back on the scene as their lawyer and Janine has also returned as their secretary. Things go better for Peter has he gets back together with Dana whilst the other guys discover that the slime under the city is pure evil fueled by negative energy given off by New York citizens and whats more it is all channeling towards the museum to Danas painting whihc is the painting of an evil medieval warlord Vigo the Carpathian who wants to return to the world through Dana's baby.
Of course the sh*t eventually hits the fan and it is up for the Ghostbusters to save the day.
MY OPINION
I love this movie. I think Bill Murray is a comic genius and his Peter Venkman character is hilarious. Admittedly he doesn't provide as many laughs as Ghostbuster I but I think he still sustains. Harold Ramis as Egon also gets alot more funny lines in this film
Raymond Stantz: "Do you think there is a connection between this Vigo and the ... slime?" Egon Spengler: "Is the atomic weight of cobalt 58.9?"
It is fantastic that they got so much of the old cast together. Even the mayor is back. I really think this helped it not fall into the category of a crappy sequel. Louis Tully and Janine get hooked with hilarious consequences. Peter MacNicol (Ally MacBeal, Bean) also stars as the museum curator and minion of Vigo the Carpathian. He is a foreigner of nondescript nationality and portrays a hilarious character with a thick, stupid accent and an obssesion for Dana.
The special effects are also fantastic for the time. The Ghostbusters manage to animate the Statue of Liberty and the scenes were it walks through the streets are very impressive.
It is directed by Ivan Reitman who also made such terrible films as Twins and Junior and some not so terrible films as Evolution and Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters is definately his best work. Though to be fair I don't think Ghostbusters' merits come from its directing
All in all it is a fantastic sequel. Hilarious and very entertaining. I would strongly recommend it to anyone. Along with the first Ghostbusters it is definately one of those films you have to see.
It is rated as PG as it may be abit scary for younger children but let them watch it. It's good for them, wrapping them up from the world only turns them into serial killers. There is also some use of bad language.
The DVD also has a trailer and filmography. Exciting eh? It cost me £2.50 but I see Amazon are selling it for £0.32 + p&p
Advantages: Good funny bits Disadvantages: Not a patch on the first, ending was so bad!
I suppose that after watching Ghostbusters is was inevitable that Ghostbusters 2 was going to come next. I had no expectations about this film before seeing it so was not sure what to expect. This sequel is set 5 years after the first and we meet the Ghostbusters who have hit hard times. Their business is going down the pan and they are being sued for all the damage they have caused by catching these ghosts. Some of the gang are making some money ... ...she goes to see the Ghostbusters to try and find out what or who took the pram. Dana is a bit wary of seeing the team again as she did have a brief relationship with Peter but that ended and she went on to get married and have a baby. Dana is now working at the museum where a massive paining of an old warrior has been bought up from the basement for cleaning. We soon find that this painting is not normal and the ghost inside it wants Dana’s baby ...

Advantages: Really funny, cheap, special features, PG, everything in one Disadvantages: Apart from the 80's effects (which isn't really a disadvantage) I can't actually think of anything
Ramis (Egon Spengler) and Murray (Peter Venkman), along with Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) Sigourney Weaver (Dana), Rick Moranis (Louis - the little guy) and Annie Pots (Janine) give an incredable performance playing some of the most likeable characters in a film I've seen - I can't say that I dislike any of them. Plus, what more do you need in a film than a green ghost that eats everything, a giant marshmallow man, stone dogs that come to life, librarians, demons, slime and general deomolition?
Well, how about a river of slime, a painting which comes to life, a walking Statue of Liberty, more ghosts, destruction, flashing lights and a strange little man tries to steal Dana's baby. Because that's what you get in Ghostbusters2, also in the boxset. The second film is as funny as the first, and contains more great one liners, proton packs ...

This film is funny throughout, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis perform well together to a script written by Dan and Harold themselves. Sigourney Weaver plays the damsel in distress, Dana Barrett.
