I rented this DVD to see Desmond Harrington, but as I am also a Film Studies student I tend to research the entire DVD through and through, watching every single bit of extras there are on the DVD.
Starring Desmond Harrington (Wrong Turn) and Julianna Margulies (Evelyn) this interesting depiction of a Ghost Ship takes you on a journey to the past.
The plot is fairly straightforward if you pay attention to detail and are interested in ships. The main plot is that there are a group of people who find ships, and a guy comes in (Harrington) and talks to them about a ship he has spotted in the ocean.
So as planned, the team head out with Harrington on board also (claiming he knows nothing about ships) hoping to find this ship.
What you do not know is that everyone aboard the ship was murdered over 50 years prior to that night and the only survivor was a man who wanted to capture people for their greed.
The plot is very unpredictable, I had expected for everything to go as planned, but if this had happened, the movie would not have been called 'Ghost Ship.'
Twists bamboozle the initial plot of the movie, giving it a burst of tension and plenty of excitement.
I must admit I found it quite boring at the beginning, but it began to pick up as the twists kicked in. The ending was just as surprising, and leaves you yelling and screaming at the television. This movie was definitely unpredictable.
I must mention that I've left out a crucial part of the plot on purpose, because telling would ruin it for you, but I swear, when you watch the movie, you do not expect the events to unfold the way that they do.
In terms of the DVD, the extras are plentiful. Many 'making of' featurettes inform you of how the movie was put together, and I don't just mean a five minute but on how the ship was made, I mean a half an hour length bit on how they used CGI, and real life sculpturing, down to the tiniest detail.
I was fascinated by the featurettes, and as previously stated I am a Film student, and so scrutinising movies is something I have been doing for a long time, along with merchandise, DVD/VHS, marketing etc.
Features on the DVD also include a game, which I found interesting. I couldn’t play it as it was too difficult for me to figure out, but it will keep you occupied if you have time.
Desmond Harrington’s performance was outstanding in this movie; much more than what I had expected, along with Julianna Margulies, who’s performance made me wonder why I hadn’t seen her name advertised more widely in the film industry.
If you enjoy horror movies, this is one to add to your collection. Unpredictable, indeed thrilling, maybe not as scary as I had expected, but definitely has it’s chills. And if you enjoy watching ‘making of featurettes’ this is also one to have. I enjoy seeing the technical side of how movies are made, and this one was especially informative.
If you are afraid of ghosts, don’t buy this movie. The fact that you might look in the mirror and change into someone else may haunt you for the rest of your life.
I give this an overall rating of 9/10.

Advantages: You can laugh at your 'I'll look after you' boyfriend when he jumps at the first sign of anything gruesome. Disadvantages: Its winter, they're in Arctic waters, they're in the middle of the ocean, yet this silly girl seems happy waltzing around in a little t-shirt rather than a jumper. Hmm.
