I wanted to see Ghost ship at the cinema but being unable to get to the pictures at a time when the film was showing, I wasn’t too disappointed – knowing it wouldn’t be too long before it was on DVD.
The time finally came and it was released on DVD, so I added it my queue at my DVD rental site and waited for its delivery.
I sat in anticipation with my family as we placed it in our DVD player, thinking it would scare the pants off us! I was wishfully thinking.
The film is basically about an old cruiser which is the scene of what must be the world’s biggest ever mass murder. Dancing on the dance floor little do the dancer realise the ‘death’ they have in just a few moments. But who should want to kill the whole of a ships crew and passengers? Of course there is one ‘survivor’ of the onslaught is a little girl.
Alerted to the fact by a reporter a top team of salvage experts are recruited to bring the ship back. The job will be worth millions to the salvagers. The twist is fairly predictable and it really doesn’t take the brain of Britain to work out the moves and the ending leaves us to believe there could be a Ghost ship 2 (lets hope not)
I was really disappointed by this film-it was a complete let down. It was hardly scary enough to frighten the ‘milder’ person, although it was a little bloody. The plot of the film is very simple and basic, and the film didn’t seem too long – which was a good thing for those of us that were bored.
Set mainly on a derelict ship of the film sees the demise of the salvage crew one by one, which is totally predictable. One survivor is all that remains, who has a little help from a friendly ghost.
The film was totally unbelievable, massively predictable, and a thorough let down. Yes there was plenty of blood; yes there were some special effects. But negatively-the story line was very weak, the acting was standard, and some special effects were laughable.
Julianna Margulies plays the lead role and along with the other main characters make the film tolerable though far from entertaining.
The film is directed by Steve Beck, lasts for 87 unexciting minutes (approximately).
The DVD extras include: Interactive menus. Documentary, Visual effects featurette and music video. The film stars: Julianna Margulies, Ron Eldard, Desmond Harrington, Isaiah Washington, Gabriel Byrne and is rated an 18 certificate
~~Overall~~
I was genuinely upset by the lack of storyline, and suspense in this film. I sat there on a Sunday afternoon watching the DVD with my family (whom all seemed to enjoy it to a point). It lacked originality with the plot and could have been made far more exciting. A real scary movie is one that is believable and this was totally the opposite. The acting was okay but nothing to write home about. Effects were standard: A necklace passing through a ghost’s hand, bodies sliced into two etc. It never generated any excitement in me whatsoever. Not once did I say ‘Cor, this is good isn’t it?”. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this film in any shape way or form. The film runs for about one and a half hours so if you’ve got no other film to watch or nothing better to do then go ahead take a view. I can truly say that I’m glad I never spent money travelling to the pictures to see this film, I would have felt cheated

Advantages: You can laugh at your 'I'll look after you' boyfriend when he jumps at the first sign of anything gruesome. Disadvantages: Its winter, they're in Arctic waters, they're in the middle of the ocean, yet this silly girl seems happy waltzing around in a little t-shirt rather than a jumper. Hmm.
