MAIN CAST:
Nicolas Cage (Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider) Eva Mendes (Roxanne Simpson) Brett Cullen (Barton Blaze) Peter Fonda (Mephistopheles) Donal Logue (Mack) Wes Bentley (Blackheart)
'Ghost Rider' is based on Marvel character Johnny Blaze, who gives up his soul in order to save his father, and becomes a hell blazing vigilante by night whose purpose it is to hunt down evil and dispatch it back to hell.
In order to avoid confusion, Marvel Comics 'Ghost Rider' is now called 'The Phantom Rider', and the character in the comics is simply a regular human who wears a white costume and rides a white painted horse.
BRIEF SUMMARY:
On the day motorcycle daredevil Johnny Blaze has planned to run away with the love of his life, Roxanne, he finds out that his father has terminal cancer. Enters nasty Mephistopheles, offering to cure Johnny's father in exchange for Johnny's soul, and Johnny readily agrees. However, the devil deceives Johnny. Although he does cure Johnny's father of his cancer, his father dies nonetheless during a motorcycle stunt that same day. Devastated, Johnny leaves everything behind, including his girlfriend.
Years later, when Mephistopheles's son attempts to overthrow him in order to create a new hell, one far worse than the present-day version, Mephistopheles calls upon the only one who can stop his son... the Ghost Rider.
Unfortunately for him, Johnny Blaze becomes the Ghost Rider, and he soon discovers the magnitude of the mistake he made all those year ago when he made a deal with the devil. When he turns into a blazing skeleton complete with multipurpose heavyweight chain and road-ravaging flaming tank chopper, it becomes obvious there's no turning back.
COMMENT:
This is a tremendously entertaining movie, and Cage's performance has more than made up for the endless suffering inflicted upon me by 'The Wicker Man'. No... we won't go there. Suffice it to say that Ghost Rider is fast-paced, action-packed, and mind-boggling - what more can I say except; "Don't miss it!"
