Germany At War - Hitler's War Machine (Box Set)

Advantages: Excellent insight into Hitlers last days, superb acting and performances
Disadvantages: Subtitles.

...Hitler, after all you can only have one stag in the herd. Hitler and Stalin had formed an alliance when Germany attacked Poland in 39 and this was more through necessity than choice. Hitler never trusted Stalin and with good reason. The other reasons why Hitler attacked Russia were to do with security and resources. Germany is in the middle of Europe and therefore faced on two sides, if you're an insecure person, that will because you problems, the second reason, resources were a more pressing one. The problem for Germany was that it had no oil, they extracted oil from shale but it was a long and wasteful process and if you want to run a War Machine you need oil and lots of it. There were oil fields in Rumania but not really enough, no when you look at it, Russia has an abundance of everything, food, oil and manufacturing plants... Read review

Advantages: Fantastic effects, moving story, non-fictional, great box set, loads of features, episodes 20hrs (i think) + features
Disadvantages: None that I can think of. It's fantastic!

...Based on Stephen E Ambrose's book, band of brothers is the story of E company in the 101st Airbourne division (paratroopers) during the second world war. It follows their progress through Normandy, Belgium (battle of the bulge), Norway, Germany and Austria; and features testament from some of the characters actually featured. It is the most moving story i've ever had the pleasure to watch and with all the extra features, the fantastic special effects, the impressive soundtrack (it sent shivers down my spine), and the great acting/directing, it is well worth investing in. I would recommend it to anyone. I have owned this for about a year and have watched all of the episodes at least 4 times. My girlfriend also loves it.... Read review

Advantages: I admire the bravery of the Germans who made and acted in this film
Disadvantages: Without an understanding about National Socialism this film can be misunderstood

...the Russians and their bombs. The main part of the film, however, is set in Hitler's bunker somewhere in Berlin. Here Hitler tries to change the course of war, Although it is more than obvious that Germany is going to lose the war. Hitler's generals know how hopeless their and Germany's situation is, but don't dare to inform Hitler about important incidents concerning the war. On the contrary they try their best to leave the inglorious and deadly battlegrounds knowing exactly that staying at Hitler's side would mean their own deaths. Hitler neither in control of the situation nor of him is constantly planning assaults using companies and troops that only exist on a map.
