Georgia Rule is a comedy drama that was released in the box office on 11th May 2007 and was greeted by heavily negative reviews by the movie critics. The film was made on a budget of $20,000,000 and grossed an estimated $41,000,000. The film runs for approximately 113 and is rated 12.

Georgia Rule is directed by Garry Marshall who’s directed films such as: The Princess Diaries, Runaway Bride and none other than Pretty Woman. Needless to say I’m a big fan of all three films so I had high expectations for this.

The cast consists of three female leads, something which is quite unusual in films. It stars Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls), Jane Fonda (Monster-In-Law) and Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives).

Rebellious teenager Rachel Wilcox (Lindsay Lohan) is being sent to live with her Grandmother for 10 weeks as a result of her unruly behaivour. Upon arrival she is quickly put in her place by her grandmother Georgia Randall (Jane Fonda) who follows a few simple rules in her household also known as Georgia rule. Rachel, unsurprisingly doesn’t take kindly to her newly enforced rules and is even more exasperated when she finds out that she is going to have to work while she is staying with her Grandmother who she hasn’t seen since she was a child.

While working at the vets she gets to know Simon and it turns out that they have more in common than they think. Rachel’s mother eventually turns up part way through Rachel’s stay and when Rachel makes a huge announcement concerning her ’perfect’ Step Father it turns their world upside down. None of the generations get on and their stay at Georgia’s may just change that.

This is a film that I wasn’t particularly expecting to enjoy, it was on Sky Movies a couple of nights ago and since I had nothing better to do I decided to give it a go. The only thing I had heard about this film was concerning Lindsay Lohan’s less than professional behaviour on-set.

When this film begins it has a couple of funny lines and I thought that maybe it wont be as bad as I thought it would be, however after about 15 minutes these ‘funny’ lines become tiresome and the film therefore becomes slow and drags for a while.

However despite this film being a tad slow it does have an interesting plot line, the thought of three generations of women not getting along and their strict grandmother bringing them together doesn’t exactly sound like essential viewing but this film grows you on and as it progresses you see the characters unravel and you understand their own particular struggle. You really begin to feel for the characters as the film trudges along at, at times an irritatingly slow pace.

As you’ve probably already guessed my opinion on this film is mixed, I’ve given it a three star rating but I did contemplate giving it four as I do feel that the storyline is strong enough to drag this film away from it’s negative points. The way the film unravels is somewhat gripping and the twists and turns make you want to see it right through to the end.

After about half an hour of this beginning I did cogitate turning this off but I decided to give it a chance in the hope that it may warm up as it goes along and I’m glad I did because it does get better as it goes along.

Georgia Rule is a film that deserves a chance, it’s something that in order to watch it all the way through you’ll need to be in a very patient mood as this is slow to get going but once it does the storyline becomes gripping and you really end up feeling for the characters.

I would recommend Georgia Rule to any fan of family dramas, granted this isn’t the best and isn’t likely to be something I’ll want to watch again in a hurry but after the first 45 minutes I did start to enjoy it and I’m very glad that I stuck with it through to the end. The ending of the film really does it justice and it wraps up all three characters storylines well.

Georgia Rule is available from play.com for £5.99 which I feel to be a fair price however I would suggest that if you’re interested in seeing this then it may be a good idea to rent it as you may not want to see it again.
