There, 17-year-old Rachel shocks the conservative community with her short shorts, eager sexuality (which she plies on everyone from 12-year-old boys to unsophisticated, but hot, Mormon neighbours), and her tales of possible sexual abuse at the hands of her somewhat slimy stepfather (Cary Elwes,The Princess Bride). A widower whose wife and son died tragically in an accident, Simon would've made a more compelling movie subject than these women. And for all his latent pining for Lilly, the moviegoer feels relieved for him that dodged a bullet by not marrying into this dysfunctional family. While the female leads aren't quite believable as mother, daughter, and grandmother, they all have strong moments in the film that save it from being a groaning mess. Scarcely a day goes by when we don't hear something negative about Lindsay Lohan, this promising young actress started sliding down a slippery slope two years ago. Her Mean Girls performance bought her acclaim, but since then she has become a figure of hatred. In an ironic move Georgia Rule is the story of a girl seemingly sliding down the same path as the actress that plays her.
Something has happened in Rachel's life (Lohan), initially what is not quite known. But it appears to Lilly (Felicity Huffman) that the only way to handle this issue is to offload Rachel on her grandmother Georgia (Jane Fonda), her strict Mormon upbringing perhaps might turn Rachel's head. Unsurprisingly this is not something that will float Rachel's boat, and she quickly rebels against this. But life in this small Idaho town soon starts to effect Rachel; and as things from the past and the present come to ahead maybe Rachel's actions are justified.
I'd not seen a Lindsay Lohan film since Mean Girls, and I wanted to see more than anything else whether drink and drugs had affected her acting. Fortunately if you never knew about Lindsay's recent adventures you would easily belief this girl was as pure as the driven snow to a certain degree, there is still something quite innocent looking about this actress. Her performance is certainly flawed in no way whatsoever; in fact she is the strongest and most compelling of the movies three female leads. When she's not on screen the movie starts to become a little bit hollow. She certainly knows how to captivate the male audience if nothing else, her wardrobe designer has an even better idea how to please the same audience, and this so called trashy girl looks elegant in every scene she is in, with credit in the most part going to her wardrobe.
Huffman and Fonda illustrate the duller parts of the story; Fonda's apparent hardnosed image being incredibly week but obviously this is down to script work and direction as opposed to acting ability. This stern approach seems to last for only a few minutes before she turns into some sort of straight talking pushover. Huffman could be there or not, again not the actresses fault but she is just boring; her storyline is completely flat and her character is incredibly unlikeable.
The script in respect of Lohan is great, this wild child breezes into town and turns the quiet normal lives of its residents on its heads. She flirts round local vet Simon (Dermot Mulroney) in every scene the duo work in together, more alarmingly for Simon Lohan's character Rachel gets thrust upon him by Georgia so his usual receptionist can have some time off.
Harlan (Garrett Hedlund) is the first to encounter Rachel, and it seems initially as if he wished he had not. Initially believing she is dead, after all why else would someone sleep under a road sign? Harlan is quickly accused of sexual assault by this wild child. But this relationship soon turns into a friendship, that is until sex raises his head. A rowing trip turns into a case of you show me yours, I'll show you mine. A nasty shock for Harlan, and the whole encounter throws his world upside down and challenges his strict religious upbringing, having survived his whole life pure and innocent just weeks from his charge of being a missionary for two years poor Harlan becomes corrupted.
The sexual encounter with Harlan is the pinnacle for the real story of Georgia Rule to start, having believed you had a simple wild child story; you suddenly discover you have something far worse. It's at this point that the movie starts to stand head and shoulders above similar movies. When every parent's nightmare scenario for their child comes true, it's the reactions of not just Lilly but all those that surround Rachel that beggar's belief. Surely this is just another stunt to get attention? Who would say such a thing? And just as everyone gets to grips with this horrifying revelation, Rachel spins the whole thing round again. As the story progresses it seems that Rachel is not such a wild child after all (but we all expected that) but what I never expected was a story that changed dramatically in a heartbeat, and then weaved backwards and forwards between fact and faction at an alarming place. Will the real truth finally come to light? And will it be too late to save the lives of this events passengers?
The most amusing scenes of the movie revolve around Rachel and Harlan, and Harlan's strictly non sexual girlfriend who discovers about the rowing boat incident. These chance encounters or should I say spying incidents add a different dimension to the movie, especially when Rachel confronts the issue head on, in the blunt, direct, and scary manner; well scary for a 16 year old girl.
Forget the Lohan car crash spin (in respect of her personal life, there is no evidence of this dripping over to the movies), Georgia Rule is a quality film, with a quality cast. You'd be silly to miss it, especially if you like your drama a little more cutting edge.

This is the Directors Cut version of the film Donnie Darko. What this means is that basically you get a 20 minute longer version of the film (The original is 1 hour 49 minutes and the Director's Cut is 2 hours 13 minutes) and several extras. Advantages: Keeps you thinking, fantastic storyline, you will want to watch it over and over! Disadvantages: You really do have to watch it to understand it.
I bought this DVD from eBay I believe for about £7... This was a total bargain especially for a directors cut so shop around, there are definatley some good bargains to be had!
STORYLINE - This is one of my favourite movies of all time just because of the sheer high quality of pretty much everything. The story in brief captures the life of a teenage boy in 80s suburbia, living a life that could have been... Guided or misguided by his imaginary friend ... ...of which Donnie tries to find himself.
This film questions every persons take on space, time and reality... A seriously good film for people who like to think.
CAST - Everyone who is in this film e.g. Jake Gylenhall ('Donnie') is of very quality as far as acting talent goes. They really enable you to be drawn into the story as you were living it. You can really see the superior quality of acting throughout the whole cast too.

This was actually the first version of Donnie Darko I saw, and in some ways i prefer it. There are some different choices of music, most noticeably the music used for the opening, and the inclusion of snippets of information read by Donni from "Grandma Death"'s book, which give some added depth to the story, and a few more keys to what might be going on. Overall this is a wonderful film, not only does it feature some typical teen movie aspects (love ...

DVD Description
Gary Marshall's GEORGIA RULE brings together Lindsay Lohan, Jane Fonda, and Felicity Huffman to play three generations in need of one another's guidance in this story about the bonds between three equally feisty women. When teen troublemaker Rachel (Lohan) pushes her alcoholic mother, Lilly (Huffman), over the edge, it becomes the responsibility of her grandmother, Georgia (Fonda), to set things straight. But even getting from San Francisco to Georgia's home in Mormon country proves difficult, with Rachel literally jumping out of the car and flirtatiously hitching a ride from handsome but guarded stranger Simon (Dermot Mulroney). No one in town is ready for Rachel, whose manic sexuality and abrasive attitude is a stark contrast to the strict Mormon values most of the local residents live by. Rachel's arrival and drama-filled stay force everyone she meets to question their way of life. Meanwhile, Georgia force-feeds Rachel the stern structure her own mother was too inebriated to offer, and while Rachel adamantly resists at first, she slowly starts to change, thanks to her grandmother's tough love. The early tone of the film abruptly changes when Rachel makes a bold and disturbing confession, but then takes it back, forcing everyone around her to figure out the truth on their own. For the rest of the film, characters scramble to navigate Rachel's lies and to decipher the truth from her statements. GEORGIA RULE feature strong performances from its leads: three women who are more similar than any of them would like to admit.
