Horton Hears A Who features Jim Carrey and Steve Carrel in this timeless classic tale! One day Horton the elephant hears a cry from help coming from a speck of dust. Even though he can't see anyone on the speck he decides to help it. As it turns out the speck of dust is home to the Whos who live in their city of Whoville. Horton agrees to help protect the Whos and their home but this gives him nothing but torment from his neighbors who refuse to believe that anything could survive on the speck. Still Horton stands by the motto that "After all a person is a person no matter how small." Alvin And The Chipmunks: Based on the classic cartoon series Alvin Simon and Theodore come to the big screen with their mischievous musical mayhem. When struggling songwriter Dave Seville (Jason Lee) opens his home to a talented trio of chipmunks named Alvin Simon and Theodore they become overnight music sensations. But a greedy record producer (David Cross) intends to exploit the 'boys' and send them on a grueling concert tour just to line his own pockets. Now Dave must use a little human ingenuity-and a lot of munk mischief-to get his family back before it's too late! Garfield 2: A Tail Of Two Kitties: Garfield America's favourite cat is going continental. He's travelling across the pond (with canine sidekick Odie) to surprise his master Jon Arbuckle (Meyer) who is in London to propose to his girlfriend veterinarian Liz Wilson (Hewitt). In the land of Big Ben Buckingham Palace Scotland Yard and fish and chips Garfield's British invasion takes on a Prince and the Paw-per dimension. He inadvertently switches places with the Prince a royal cat (and by luck his exact look-a-like) who has just inherited Castle Carlyle from his deceased owner Lady Eleanor this is a huge disappointment to her dastardly nephew Lord Dargis (Billy Connelly). Now living it up as the Cat of Carlyle Garfield has a butler and an international array of servants and subjects including Winston a very English bulldog; McBunny a Scottish hare; Nigel a Punjab ferret; Bolere a Spanish bull; I Claudius a Shakepeare-quoting mouse and Christophe a French goose. Meanwhile Prince is living the simple life of a commoner hitting the pubs with Jon and Oldie getting his first taste of lasagne...and loving all of it! Uneasy is the head however that wears the crown. Lord Bargis who is next in line to the estate wants Prince/Garfield out of the picture. Garfield's bigger better more pur-fect world is soon turned upside down in the tale of two kitties!

How can I go about reviewing a film that was not really intended for my viewing, but for those who can't even get into a PG13 yet? The sequel to the original Garfield movie happened to fall into my possession because my mother got it as a Christmas present. Admittedly, when she borrowed the original film off a friend (who was borrowing it off her grandchild) I did sit down and watch it with her. Garfield created a lot of laughs so when my mum stuck the DVD into the player as something to watch over the Christmas period that should be quite innocent and easy-going I sat down to watch it with her. Now this could just be my age speaking, but the charm had definitly worn off.
For those who don't know in the movie Garfield is computer-animated, not a real cat, with the rest of the people and his surroundings actually being real life. Garfield is voiced by Bill Murray, and Garfield's owner - Jon - is played by Breckin Meyer in a change of roles to what I'm used to seeing him in. It took me a while but I soon realised that Breckin was the guy who played the lead role in Road Trip. Garfield also has a mut for a comparison in Odie, the pair have an angry relationship but as much as it is cheesy to say it that anger is fueled by love. And one of the themes of the movie is love, because afterall this is a kids movie. Just don't expect any sex scenes.
As I mentioned previously, Garfield's owner is called Jon and as we begin the film he is getting ready to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Liz (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Only upon Liz's arrival for the romantic dinner Jon has planned, she reveals she is going to London for work! Jon quickly tries to get his proposal out before she leaves to pack, as she can't stay for dinner, but he can't find the ring. This allows Liz to leave un-engaged and a whole dinner for Garfield to eat by himself, as for all of you who know the Garfield franchise know he loves to eat.
Typically there is only one thing Jon can do and that is to follow Liz to London and propose to her in the second most romantic city in the World. Garfield is looking forward to going to a foreign country, until he realises he isn't invited. Jon is never separated from his animals so he finds it hard to say goodbye to Garfield and Odie as he leaves them in kennels, only he doesn't know this time allows the pair to escape and hideout in Jon's suitcase. Next thing we know, we're in London.
Garfield going to London was a pretty typical and predictable idea in my mind, the original film set up the character and for the sequel they've already choosen a new location to put him in and that comes at the cost of the laughs we got getting to know him in the first. There will obviously be more Garfield movies because they are such a money spinner for the creators, and I would have liked to have seen something like this saved for later down the line. The catch of what happens to them in England is also predictable...
In Britain there is a cat that is the mirror-image of Garfield, the only catch is this fat, ginger, cat is a Prince and has inherited a castle where he is waited on hand and foot by his adoring butlers. The bad guy in the film comes in the form of Billy Connolly, one of my least favourite comedians, and now my least favourite actor. Connolly plays Lord Dargis, who is upset that a cat has inherited all this money when it should be his. This leads to Lord Dargis trying to get rid of the prince, and when Dargis gets the prince out of the picture this opens up his oppertunity to kill all the wildlife on the castle grounds and build a spa instead.
And here comes the mix-up with them being mirror-imaged. Dargis just happens to send his butler down to London, and here he finds Garfield walking the streets. Knowing the prince is missing the butler automatically thinks that Garfield is the prince, and takes him away to the castle. Next thing you know the real prince is coming out of a drain as Jon is walking down the street and Jon takes the prince back to the hotel with him. Garfield gets to live the highlife, and the prince doesn't live so badly himself eating lasagne as Garfield is famous for. The big question is will Dargis get rid of Garfield as well so he can build his spa, and will they somehow get back to their rightful owners?
Garfield 2: Tale Of Two Kitties comes in at 82 minutes, which whilst not that long feels a lot longer when you're watching it. There are a few laughs by Garfield but generally the film is a big letdown and not the family entertainment you would hope for. Children should love it with all the talking animals, but if you're going to sit them down to watch it make sure you're going to be out of the room for the next hour. A money spinner.
Advantages: Nice family film Disadvantages: Not brilliant

DVD Description
While tagging along to England with his lovely vet girlfriend (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Garfield's owner John Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer) inadvertently brings Garfield (voiced by Bill Murray) along, where he winds up being mistaken for Prince (voiced by Tim Curry), the royal cat of a lordly estate. There's a plot afoot to steal Prince's lands and title, orchestrated by the nefarious Dargis (Billy Connolly) and it's up to Garfield to save the day, that is if he can get his face out of the lasagne long enough. This sequel to the 2004 hit GARFIELD - THE MOVIE maintains that film's clever intermingling of live action supporting cast with a CGI-animated Garfield, that self-centred, lasagne-quaffing feline, famed of newspaper comic strips by Jim Davis. Though the title is a riff from Dickens, the story here is actually copped from Mark Twain's THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER. Billy Connolly brings a sense of malicious fun to his role as the bad guy, and Bill Murray fans will be licking their whiskers over his droll take on Garfield's lazy anti-heroics. A roster of top British actors lends their voices to some animals on the estate, including Bob Hoskins, Richard E. Grant, and Jane Horrocks. Fluffy and friendly overall, this is fine family fare.
