Disadvantages: you sort of know how it will end

...If you didn't see it at the movies then definitely worth hiring or buying on DVD. I though it was going to be one of these boring remakes with the same old story. They have kept it to the same type of story but have allot of twists from the original film changing how the film goes to make it more interesting and more enjoyable and definitely up to date. The stars in the film add to the enjoyment of the film and all of them fit well into there characters. Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne lead an all-star cast, including John Leguizamo, Ja Rule and Drea de Matteo, in the explosive, action-packed thriller, Assault on Precinct 13. Run-down Precinct 13 is about to close its doors forever. But everything changes when some of Detroit's most lethal prisoners arrive. Advantages: Tension throughout, raw low budget movie, good character definition, cool soundtrack
Disadvantages: Low budget may put people off that like well crafted Hollywood productions, some actings a bit hammy

...The best thing about "Assault on Precinct 13" (1976) is that it can be enjoyed on many levels by different people. It stands as a tense, gun-toting, hard-hitting thriller. However, there's a million movies like that so, what makes Precinct 13 different? What makes it worth watching again and again? The sense of tension is evident throughout the film. Carpenter (who made this as his second film on a shoestring budget of $100,000 and wrote, directed and provided music score) sets the tension up by starting with a girl and her father driving to visit Grandma. They get lost and as he phones for direcions, his daughter goes for an ice-cream. The fact that everythings been fine-and-dandy up until now makes this an obvious mistake. Advantages: good action packed film!
Disadvantages: nothing really new in it.

...Assault on Precinct 13 is a polished remake of the 70’s classic with Ethan Hawke as a good cop whose quiet new year’s eve at his run-down Detroit precinct turns crazy when a crime lord (Fishburne), put in the cells, is the target of an attack from masked gun-men. Criminals and Police unite in an attempt to fight against the ambush.
