The Billion Backspicks up directly after the recentBenders Big Score, and the momentum and fun from that production comes along with it.The story ofThe Beast With The Billion Backsfollows, as you may have guessed from the title, the arrival of a strange creature on Earth. Said creature then takes control of Fry, who becomes the Pope of a brand new religion that soon begins to exert its grip on the planet. And without giving too much away, the panic and paranoia becomes just one part of an ambitious animated adventure, that makes a fair few points among its many, many laughs. The good news for fans ofFuturamais thatThe Beast With The Billion Backsreally delivers, with more guffaws and a better all-round script than the mightily enjoyableBenders Big Score. Its not without the odd problem, and still doesnt quite manage to match the highs of the TV show at its finest, but its a very welcome fresh addition to theFuturamauniverse. Two further direct-to-DVD movies are in the works at the time of this review being written, and with them comes continued hope for a full-on revival of one of the funniest animated programmes of the past ten years. It may not make suitable family viewing, butFuturamais brilliant television, andThe Beast With A Billion Backsoffers plenty of evidence as to why. Strongly recommended. --Jon Foster

Futurama was taken off sky one and cancelled as Fox thought more time and focus should be spent on the Simpsons. Greoning and his produces however along with the fans have managed to entice Fox to allow Futurama to create another series on tv through 4 straight to DVD releases. After these, the program will apparently run again like normal.
Futurama is back now with its second straight to DVD release: 'The beast with a billion backs.' The film was released in Canada and USA on June 24th 2008. The films running time is approx 89 minutes. For people who never gave this animated program a chance you should really think about giving it a try. It is extremely funny and has characters that really appeal to all people.
"Brief Plot"
The previous film was a bit ramsacked with new characters and the script was quite all over the place. This film continues a month after from the former film in the script, that is with a huge whole opening in the side of the universe. Amy and Kif finally get married (but not how we understand), Fry finds himself lost in his world after not being able to accept that his new love Colleen has many other lovers. Professor Farnsworth and Prof. Wersntrom try to figure out how to enter the universe. Above all, Bender tries to destroy all humans. Basically, it is exactly what you would expect from a Futurama film, oh and of course the universe is "attacked" by a loving billion tentacled universal creature.
In this film however, after making all the jokes and cracks out of 20th century fox, the writers have actually delivered a much wittier script. There are several scenes that are unbelievably funny e.g. the deathball scene and where Fry eats dinners with his girlfriends lovers. It may seem that I haave given much away but this film has so much more.
"Character Performance"
The characters have as usual really enamored themselves within their roles. This film again focuses msot of its attention on Fry and Bender, but each character has their say. Zap Branagan is still trying his sexual antics on anything that moves and dusty the cleaner still manages to appear in a random scene. What could have been better is a bigger role for Zoidberg and Hermes who really have limited lines in this film. These are two extremely likeable characters who dont get much of a say.
As this is not meant to be a huge motion picture, you cant put any pressure on the script writers as we are basically expected the same quality as TV Futurama. So therefore you should not be expecting to be blown away by an incredible film. However, this is a film that is still worth watching especially if you love the futurama franchise. The program is great for families like the Simpsons is.
The film agains has managed to attract some celebrity names to take on some of the new roles e.g. Britanny murphy voices as Colleen, Fry's new girlfriend, David Cross as Yivo the Unviersal alien and professor Stephen Hawking returns as himself in head form. Dan Castallaneta who is the voice of Homer Simpson also takes up a role in this film.
"My Opinion"
After watching this film I sat down for a while thinking about what I could say. It wasn't magnificent but I wasnt expecting it to be. One thing it did do however was make me laugh and it is always great to see the characters you love after such a long delay of time. The new characters fit in well unlike the last straight to DVD release.
There are some really funny gags in this film. Deathball to superman, they came out of knowhere in classic Futurama style and makes you laugh. I think this film is probably better to watch as a group but it does not dissapoint if you want to sit down for an hour and a half and relax with your feet up. It is generally pleasing and it is what you would expect from this film.
"DVD Features"
Bonus features are of a vast amount in this DVD. They include a complete running commentary on the film, deleted scenes, storyboards, blooper reels, recording session of the actors at work, 3d models with audio description and much more.
Another interesting bonus is a celebrity featurette with David Cross, and you can choose an option to have Bender or the rest of the cast read out the credits which is quite funny. Interestingly the film also has a theatrical trailer for the next Futurama film, which is the 3rd straight to DVD release: Benders Game.
"Conclusion"
Does the film guarantee soem good laughs??.......YES, as does every other Futurama episode or DVD film. It is comical and this animation hits the spot for any viewer. It is a film I would watch again, and if it has that appeal then it must surely be njoyable enough to purchase and see it yourself.
The film holds a viewing rating of (12). Grab a bag of popcorn or somethign sweet, eat a few bars of chocolate and relax while I did with this one in your DVD player. On Amazon.co.uk this film is going for £9.98. You can get it cheaper on Amazon.com or ebay.
My film rating - 3.5/5 - recommended to watch if you love Futurama or have never seen it.
Thanx for reading the review,

Futurama - The Beast with a Billion Backs is the second of the Futurama straight to DVD movies. It's to be followed by "Bender's Game", out soon, and "Into the Wild Green Yonder", due for release in 2009. The title refers to the phrase 'the beast with two backs', meaning sexual intercourse, from Shakespeare's "Othello".
The story follows on from the first film, Bender's Big Score. A month has gone by since the universe was ripped open and people ... ...back!
I'm so glad Futurama is back, it was treated very unfairly by Fox and deserves these straight to DVD films. I just hope there are more than these four to come. As with all Futurama shows/films, the animation is superb, with bright colours, fluid movement and very complex CGI sequences.
This is an all around better film that the first one. The story seems more coherent and it's feels a lot more like a full length feature, rather than a bunch ...

Advantages: very funny, cohesive plot Disadvantages: you should watch the TV series first
...I saw it. Futurama was a TV show by the creators of the Simpsons. It tells the story of Fry, who was accidentally frozen and woke up in the year 3000, where he got a job as a delivery boy for Planet Express. The series has a collection of interesting and memorable characters, some of whom are human, some are aliens, some are robots. The series is amusing, with many references to a wide range of sci-fi films and TV shows. When the series was cancelled, ... ...try watching an episode of Futurama when it's repeated on TV. I expect that most of the best jokes of this film will only be amusing to those who know the show and the characters. It's probably not the best place to start. However, the storyline doesn't really rely on background knowledge, so you might enjoy it. If you've seen some Futurama and didn't enjoy it, then the chances are you won't enjoy this either. It has very much the same feel as the ...

...him so some semblance of Futurama style normality starts to return to the movie.
The movie meanders nowhere for a very long time then Kif dies in a scene stolen from the movie Dark Star. Fry crosses to the other universe & Bender joins The League Of Robots (who claim not to exist). The Professor encases The Earth in a sphere (in a scene lifted right out of The Simpsons Movie) then we have all the planets of The Universe invaded by a tentacle called ... ...Leela appears to be the last not to have been taken over but pretends she has been & reveals Yivo was mating with everyone. This is where the title of the movie comes from (which is a very weak sex joke that the writers probably think was very funny and really high brow) it's a play on the phrase "The Beast With Two Backs".
Eventually it re-animates Kif & releases everyone from its parasitic influence. Calculon & Bender have a duel & Bender becomes ...
