with a particularly dark edge. Oliver Platt plays a would-be comedian, the son of a major comedy star (Jerry Lewis); dad's reputation even overshadows his son's Las Vegas debut. After that flop the son tries to go back to his roots and heads across the Atlantic for his father's launch pad in Blackpool. There, he meets his previously unknown half-brother (Lee Evans), a bizarre comedy savant who teaches him a thing or two about taking risks to get laughs, and discovers a secret about how his father got started. Platt is likably lost and Lewis is perfectly overbearing, but the real find here is Evans, making his cinematic debut as the rubber-faced, protean comic with always surprising material. --Marshall Fine

This film seems to support the fact that in private all comedians have sad personel lives. The basic story is that a US Comedian, son of a famous comedian (played by Jerry Lewis)returns to his fathers's roots in Blackpool and discovers a half brother (played by Lee Evans) and the fact that his father stole his act. All the performances are excellent whether showing a stars rampaging ego or the crushing of fragile dreams. Highlight of the films are whenever Lee Evans is given free reign to show us his amazing physical comic talents. Advantages: surperb acting Disadvantages: alot of the good characters pushed into subplots
I was amazed when I first saw this film, it is a wonderful film to get lost in and I was surprised I hadn't heard of it before.
I am a great Lee Evans fan and so searched out this dvd and was surprised at what a great story it had. As said it the other review the premous of the story is simple, two totally different comics teach each other about comedy, but you also have the sub plots of stolen eggs, dead frenchmen and a search for eternal youth. ... ...unlikely place of Blackpool and done so with great effect. I can't think of anywhere else it could be based.
The acting is wonderful but they all seem a little eclipsed by Evans who's character seems to shine through. I imagine he was given free reign in some scenes as the other actors seem surprised at some things he does and don't seem to know how to react.
I recomend you give this film a try, you won't be disappointed. ...

Now i should hope many of you had heard of Lee Evans, but sadly i hadn't really until about a year ago. I watched his 2005 performance on TV and became hooked, so when i heard he was releasing BIG Live At The O2, i was over the moon.
A bit about the man: Lee Evans 45 started peforming in the 1990's. He has had comparisons with Norman wisdom. He has also done a acting in a fair few movies, such as: FunnyBones, Mousehunt, Theres Something About Mary. . .To name a few. He has won the Perrier Comedy Award.
Now onto the DVD stats: 15+ . A running time of approx 105 mins. Has an extra part which includes the making of the performance.
All The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and The Independent have praised Lee Evans' work.
