...One of director Stanley Kubrick's most successful films (along with the renowned "The Shining), Full Metal Jacket (based on the novel by Gustav Hasford) tells the stroy of a group of soldiers Fighting the Vietcong in the hostile environment of Vietnam. It follows the platoon from their conception in training through to the horrors that faced thousands of Americans when they reached the unkown Asian continent. The Vietnamese war, one of controversy, has been the basis of many Hollywood productions over the years, but Kubrick's production brings together both the fighting done and the personal views, of soldiers. With focus on a small group of soldiers, there is a intimate feel to the story as you follow their plight. Advantages: great dialogue, superb acting
Disadvantages: It ends, but doesn't end

...To describe Full Metal Jacket in one word would simple be amazing. There are no bad points in this film it just tells it how it is and it's not pleasant. I would personally say that my favourite scene, was when private pile shot himself in the toilet. It was so intense, and the light in that scene did it all for his repressed madness. Its ending is unique in a way that the story ends but the film does not. What I mean by that is the story comes to end when Joker shoots the woman, but it seems that the film could have gone on longer and maybe more into how Joker feels about it, like with 'Born on the Fourth of July'. I do not know why Kubrick decided to do it that way; it could be something to do with the way it was written.... Read review
