Released in 2004, Tim Vine ? exquisitely entitled ?The Man With The Golden Pun? by The Independent newspaper ? Holds the Guinness World Record for telling the most jokes in an hour ? apparently it?s 499!! Of course, what constitutes a ?joke? would theoretically be something to make someone laugh?here on his first ever live DVD stand-up, which includes 377 jokes, he certainly does that.
Stood in front of an audience surely no more than a 100, on a small stage whilst pouring with sweat, he reels off joke after joke after joke after joke?predominantly one-liners that can be cringe-worthy at times. But the majority of the time, after a couple of seconds you?ll laugh. That?s the genius of the man?by the time you?ve ?got? a joke, he?ll be half way through the next. Hence, you can?t just watch this DVD once!
He splits up his session ...
Advantages: Fantastic characters, great and original story line. Disadvantages: That the anime only covers so little of the manga story.
rare occasions where I preferred the English dub to the Japanese with English subtitles. Main reasons being that I disliked the Japanese cast for Yuki Sohma, and that the English cast did the series justice and didn't sound wooden at all.
Music: The background music (BGM) fit the series well, and is for the most part light and pleasant. Nothing special, though, even the opening and ending theme are non spectacular. So though it fits well, Fruits Basket isn't a series I would buy the soundtrack for.
Value for money: Amazing. Seriously, this disc has the first 6 half-hour episodes. It is a 26-part anime series, and fits on 4 discs total (you can also buy a special boxed set of the 4) whereas most 26-part series' can drag them out for 7 or even 8 if they're clever (a la Escaflowne).
From manga to anime: As with most anime series Fruits ...
Advantages: Pub ammo for months!!! Disadvantages: Can ba hard work to watch it all in one go
Star of "The Sketch Show" and the Guiness Book Records holder for most jokes in an hour, Tim Vine's first DVD is a must for any fan of the one liners. However, if not, do not touch this with a barge pole (or any other large pointy stick).
I personally am a fan of Tim Vine, especially his stand up which I had previously seen on The Stand Up Show when it was on BBC 1. I would not be doing my job in this review if I didn't mention Tommy Cooper. Their styles are very similar, only Vine has less magic and more 'wacky' props!!
The jokes total 499 (smashing the previous world record of 362) and, if you like this sort of humour, then you will laugh at well over half. This may not sound like much, but it is rare that you will find a dvd in which you laugh over 200 times!!
Some of the highlights for me are: (I apologise if I ruin some ...
