Certainly Sean Connery was never better as the dashing Agent 007, whose latest mission takes him to Istanbul to retrieve a top-secret Russian decoding machine. His efforts are thwarted when he gets romantically distracted by a sexy Russian double agent (Daniela Bianchi), and is tracked by a lovely assassin (Lotte Lenya) with switchblade shoes, and by a crazed killer (Robert Shaw), who clashes with Bond during the film's dazzling climax aboard the Orient Express. From Russia with Love is classic James Bond, before the gadgets, pyrotechnics and Roger Moore steered the movies away from the more realistic tone of the books by Ian Fleming. --Jeff Shannon

...steal a decoder (the Lektor) from the Russians. They also have plans to humiliate the British Secret Service in retaliation for the death of Dr No. Rosa Klebb, a SPECTRE agent, is given control of this operation and recruits an unstable killer (Red Grant) and a Russian clerk Tatiana Romanova. Tatiana will defect to the British but only if James Bond, with whom she has fallen in love, will collect her and the decoder.
007 happily agrees to take the ... ...entire series of films.
From Russia With Love is the last Bond film produced before the Bond formula was laid down by Goldfinger. Goldfinger upped the budget, humour and fantasy and from 1964 on the goal of every Bond film was to be bigger than the last. More spectacle, more gadgets and more money. From Russia With Love is very stripped down compared to the films that followed taking cues from influences like The Third Man and North By Northwest. ...

Advantages: Solid Bond film Disadvantages: Not as good as Dr No
...the second James Bond film from EON productions. The first, Dr No, launched Sean Connery onto the international screen, and brought us the charismatic British agent James Bond.
The Plot
Crime organisation S.P.E.C.T.R.E. has created a device that will decode Russian secrets and upset the world order. Secret agent James Bond 007 is sent to Istanbul to retrieve the device. He has to overcome S.P.E.C.T.R.E.'s agents first of all, though, including ... ...rated Dr No higher than From Russia With Love. The direction and plot are okay, but I think Young did a better job in Dr No.
The scenery is once again breathtaking, and the special effects, while limited and dated, are impressive. Perhaps it was the tale itself that I was not as enamoured with, but I was not hugely impressed by this Bond film.
Conclusion
A good film, but not great.

In this--the second of the series--Bond travels to Turkey to meet a mysterious Russian woman who claims to have fallen in love with his photograph. She offers him a secret translating device if he will join her, although he does not know that she has been put up to the task by Rosa Klebb--formerly of the KGB--who has gone to work for SPECTRE. It's Bond's assignment to get the girl and the machine back to England, and to do it--of course--in style. Digitally restored.
