Advantages: Excellent extras complement the excellent film Disadvantages: Why has it not been remastered in surround sound?
...Sept 23rd 1963. Of course From Russia With Love is the second of the long line of Bond movies and grossed a massive $78.9 million (around $410 million today). Following on from Dr No, From Russia With Love brought a number of new things to the Bond films, as well as setting the standard for Goldfinger (review coming later).
THE STORY:
After Dr No, the evil crime cartel SPECTRE seeks revenge for the death of its operative Dr No. Bond is set up by ... ...high points.
Overall the From Russia With Love has everything expected in a Bond film: exciting action, cool gadgets, amazing locations, beautiful woman and a spectacular sound track.
Since this opinion is more about the offerings of the DVD rather than the movie itself I won’t go into anymore detail here.

Advantages: Great storyline , good range of extras Disadvantages: Extras not quite up to the standard set by the other Bond discs, mono sound - again!
...have the second Bond film from 1963, 'From Russia With Love'. It may be the second film, but it's the first to feature those wonderful silhouetted females cavorting over the theme tune, leaving us all gasping for the outline of nipples and gasping at the amazing gymnastics! (Well, that's what it used to do for me anyway!)
It's also the third film to be released in the wonderful remastered DVD series, packed full of ultra-special extras. Just what ... ...again for the film footage from the actual making, see Connery hanging around looking very un-Bond like. However, that's it for the extras (apart from a useless Stills Gallery - buy a book if you want to look at photos), and while it's great to find DVDs with this many extras, it's relatively sparse compared to some of the other discs (Thunderball for instance).
The picture quality is up to the standard of the other discs I'm pleased to say, with ...

~ ~ Following on from the outstanding success of the first James Bond movie, Dr. No, in 1963, the studios and money men were very quick to get a second helping onto our cinema screens the following year. (May, 1964)
Directed by Terence Young, this movie again cast everyone’s favourite Edinburgh milkman, Sean Connery, (just imagine this guy delivering your gold tops in the morning girls) as the intrepid and dashing 007. He is once more pitted ... ...we have come to expect from more recent Bond movies, with James simply getting an exploding briefcase with a tear gas canister hidden inside, a high powered assassins rifle with an infra-red scope, and a hidden knife and roll of gold coins. No fancy cars for our lad on this occasion, but he does get himself a trip on the fabled Orient Express train, where he despatches a bad lad, SPECTRE's chief hunk Red Grant, (Robert Shaw) through the carriage ...

Russian Romance Review ofFrom Russia With Love DVDby
MarcusPerkins
Advantages: Disadvantages:
The film marks the debut of the white pussycat and its master, SPECTRE commander Blofeld. But not for them their usual aim of global domination; this time it's personal: to avenge the death of Dr No by killing Bond nastily; to distribute image-damaging porno pics of him in bed with a Russian Mata Hari - and all after duping him into giving them a decoding machine. The bait is Romanova , a simple KGB clerk who's as innocent as she's lovely. Best remembered ...

...edition of the Bond series. From Russia with love was one of the classics too. The film boasts a number of outstading elements. One of these is the pre-credits seqeunce were Grants attcks a fake Bond. Another being the introduction of Q and the Bond gadgets.
Bonds assignment in this film is to un-cover a decoding machine called 'Lektor'. This is currently held by the Russians. Bond is helped by Soviet agent- Romanova. SPECTRE, a secret national ... ...not easy. A classic moment from any Bond film.
Q made his first appearnce in a Bond film here. It was fairly short in comparison to other films. He was portrayed as maybe an un-interesting bureacrat. This aside, he came up with some pretty cool gadjet. One of the more famous inventions is the Attache case. In the train battle- it saves Bonds life. It contained many smaller gadgets- which would, as always, proove to be usefull in the long run.

Advantages: A wonderful romantic film Disadvantages: The length - didnt bother me too much though!
...When I saw Dr Zhivago on ITV, I frist thought that I had to get it. On video, its a good 4 hours long. However, on the DVD, its split up into the different chapters, so you can stop it at certain points and carry on whenever you want.
For those who don't know about Dr Zhivago, it's a televised version of the book by Boris Pasternak. It's all about romance, love, betrayal and the revolution in Russia at the beginning of the 1900's.
Yury (played by Hans Matheson) witnesses the suicide of his father as he [the father] jumps off a moving steam train. The film watches Yury as he moves in with a new family, and goes through medical school. You will see through the film how he falls for one girl ad then another, and he's caught in the middle.
If you love Romance, Period Dramas, films fromRussia or any of the actors/actresses, you'll love...

Advantages: THE BEST FILM'S EVER Disadvantages: RATHER PRICEY BOX SET
...Sean Connery - undoubtedly the greatest ever James Bond, whether it is sexy attitude towards the opposite sex or the amount of villains he has knocked out with one punch, he is the Best. What better way to relive these epic Connery adventures than to purchase this Dvd box set. Dr. No - The first bond film about a corrupt villain named (you guessed it) Dr No. FromRussia With Love - Bond is sent to Russia in order to stop SPECTRE's attempt to rule the world (again). Goldi finger - Evil arch villain Gold finger, has a strange obsession of murdering people by covering them in solid gold paint. Will Gold finger succeed in his attempt to rob Fort Knox, surely not. With more classic titles included such as Thunder ball (a true bond classic, with a great story line), You Only Live Twice (Trouble in Japan for Mr James Bond), and Diamonds...

...to Q branch. In fact compared to his briefcase in fromRussia With Love Bond has hit the jackpot this time.
THE DVD
Many people consider Goldfinger as their favourite Bond film. The film of course has everything. I particularly like the part at the beginning of the film where Bond emerges from the water in scuba gear, with a duck on his head. Then he takes it all off to reveal a perfect white dinner jacket underneath. Anyone with even the slightest interest in Bond or spy-action films has to think of Goldfinger as one of the all time classics.
Thankfully MGM recognised the importance of Goldfinger and tagged a load of special extra features on.
There are no less than 2 commentaries to accompany the film – one from the director (Guy Hamilton), and another from the cast and crew. Then there are two documentaries. One is about...

DVD Description
Secret agent James Bond battles the all-enveloping tentacles of an international crime syndicate called SPECTRE. The organization's mad plan for world supremacy unfolds with the icy efficiency of a chessmaster's complex strategy, and if they succeed, the antagonism of the cold war will be pushed from deep-freeze to the supernova of atomic oblivion. But our man Bond dispatches sultry spies, madmen, and double agents with the same coolness he displays while downing martinis and making love to beautiful blondes. In this, the second of the series, Bond travels to Turkey to meet a mysterious Russian woman who claims to have fallen in love with his photograph. She offers him a secret translating device if he will join her, although he does not know that she has been put up to the task by Rosa Klebb, formerly of the KGB, who has gone to work for SPECTRE. It's Bond's assignment to get the girl and the machine back to England--and to do it, of course, in style.
