This is a fairly odd film in terms of trying to place its genre. It's more a bad western with some vampires in it than a bad vampire movie set in the old west. Described as a prequel despite being billed as part of the Dusk Till Dawn series this is set in the old west and tries to incorporate the true story of the author Ambrose Bierce and his disappearance into Mexico with the desire to join up and become part of Pancho Villa's army.
The film itself is very surreal and follows the journey of Bierce (don't ever expect to understand the start of this movie or Bierce's memories of the event either as it's very unclear as to whether his execution is a flashback, a dream or him imagining some future event yet to happen).
The film also follows the fortunes of Johnny Madrid who escapes the hangmans noose with the daughter of the hangman who was going to execute him and he goes on the run after reuniting with his gang. Throw into that mix Reece who rescued him and John & Mary Newlie who are travelling on the same stage coach with Bierce to take bibles to a local village.
Obviously things go badly for them all and they all eventually end up at La Tetilla del Diablo (The Devils Tit, the bar that will become known as The Titty Twister in the future parts of the film) and are served by Razor Charlie (Danny Trejo, the only actor appearing in all 3 "From Dusk" films)
The Newlies are given accomodation, Madrid & the hangmans daughter are separated and Bierce decides to drink himself into a stupor. Obviously the sun goes down and bad things start to happen but not before the Hangman (Temuera Morrison who is probably best known for playing Jango Fett in the Star Wars prequel trilogy) himself arrives looking for Madrid as he still wants to kill him.
Lots of vampire based fighting ensues and from then on its just down to who lives and how people escape. Throw in a side plot that the Hangmans daughter is half vampire but also a vampire princess known as Santanico Pandemonium (the role originally played by Salma Hayek in the first movie). It's not a great ending but you do get to see the back of the bar in homage to the original movie.

Sounds like it went the way of one of those Tremors sequel... the 3rd or the 4th perhaps, I prefer to stick to the original ones (Dusk Till Dawn in this case)

I didn't even know there were sequels to the original Dusk til Dawn - sounds like I've not missed much.

Advantages: A differnt Western Horror, which provides a level of excitment and Intrigue! Disadvantages: When compared to the original it doesn't look that good.
