Friends with Money is a 2006 romantic film released in the United Kingdom on May 26th 2006. The film was written and directed by Nicole Holofcener and stars Jennifer Anniston. Running time of the movie is eighty eight minutes.
Olivia is a single woman who is working hard as a maid in Los Angeles to scrape by on little income. Her three friends (and their husbands) , however are mega-rich ; the total opposite of Olivia , although each friend has their own problem. Basically this film is about a group of friends ; three rich , one poor , and you get an insight into their lives. That's all there is to the plot really.
Although there are only seven main characters in this film, I found that I couldn't connect with any of them. It had nothing to do with the fact that they were upper-class , just that as a viewer I don't think we had a chance to really get to know the characters as well as we could of , and this resulted in me not really caring about the characters , because what we did see of the characters was quite shallow and nothing too deep.
I was really disappointed with the ending ; I had expected a lot more to happen before the curtain close. I thought that the last scene was where something 'new' and exciting was going to happen , but then it ended , and so there wasn't much left to the imagination , such as a what happens next cliff hanger.
Beings as the film is all about the friendship of the group , we aren't told any history regarding the group , such as how the group was formed. It's just odd that Olivia is poor and the rest of them are really rich and a lot older than her. So it would have been nice to have had some kind of introduction.
Being a Friends fan I couldn't get used to the idea that Jennifer Anniston was playing another character. I kept thinking 'oh it's Rachel' and was expecting Monica or Phoebe to turn up at anytime. Throughout the movie I kept thinking , 'where's Joey and Chandler' , 'why doesn't Rachel get back with Ross ?'. So I'm sure if you're a Friends fan , you will be thinking the exact same thing.
Considering the 'big names' in this movie, I was extremely disappointed with the end result. I had hoped that because such actors and actresses had put their names to such a film that it would be something worth watching , although now I regret wasting my time watching this movie.
One thing I was surprised about , was the fact that this could easily be a man's movie as well as woman's movie and not just a 'chick flick'. I know of a couple of male friends who liked this film (more than me!!). So just because it looks and sounds girlie doesn't mean then men won't like it.
Thanks for reading! January 2nd 2009 Xdonzx
