I never really watched friends when it first came out in '94 as after watching the pilot episode I was not impressed at all. But years later I am the owner of the entire 10 series and I watch them regularly. There are a few things that are questionable, like why did the writers change Joey Tribiannies character from a two-bit actor into a bit of a stupid two-bit actor? In the pilot episode he came across as a bit of a charmer with a brain, then in the next episode they changed his character into a forgetful more comical guy who had a way with the ladies. Then there was the door numbers in the pilot, suddenly changing over the next few episodes???? There were a few more 'sudden' changes to the scenery and the apartments but not enough to notice unless, like myself, you have watched them several times over. Anyway, the combination of characters worked great as they all clashed in a 'friendly' sort of way. Ross was the smartly dressed intelligent professor, with a thing for dinosaurs and a liking for divorces, marrying three times with-in the series, his first wife turned out to be a lesbian. Then there was his sister Monica, a highly strung chef with a passion for cleanliness. Also we had Chandler, the offspring of a x-rated author and a transvestite, who both had a thing for the pool-boy. Pheabe was the weird member of the group, giving the gang a bit of spice with her mumbo jumbo way of life. And finally, there came Rachel, running from a marriage to an author dentist. She and Ross were used as the main characters in a lot of the episodes with their on off relationship. Some of the extras are well known, watch out for Tom Selleck and Bruce Willis. Other extras make the series what it is, coming and going to fit in with some great story lines. In all, the series was comical all the way through the entire series, which is unusual for a long running show. Chandlers gags becoming more witty as time went on, Ross marrying anyone who agreed when he asked. Friends is probably not for everyone and, like me, it may take more than one episode to get into but if you do get the chance then it is worth persevering as it does become addictive with the quick banter and dry wit of the entire cast. Some of the DVDs have extra, such as outtakes and the soundtrack sung by the Rembrants, danced by the cast. Also, if you slot the dvds into your PC then there are many more bits to see. Buy it and try it
