I'm presuming when I'm writing this review that nearly everyone that reads this would have seen at least one episode of friends. Friends saw the characters Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Ross become household names across the globe and everyone's best friends. There was never a sitcom like it before and there never will be again, Friends is simply unbeatable. Sorry if my love for the show is coming through in the review slightly, I'd hate to think I'd been biased towards it in anyway.
Well due to my love for the series I do recognize it would be unfair going on and on about the series and it would serve more purpose to review the box set of series 1-10 (the complete collection). First off I would like to point out simply how good value for money this box set actually is. It would probably cost you around 130-150 pound to buy all the series separately and not only that, but you wouldn't get the great presentation box to keep the DVD's all neat and tidy… no don't be stupid… I don't occasionally take the DVD's out one by one and check they're ok… but back to the review at hand! The DVD's inside the box are just as you would buy them separately. Most of the disks in each series are double sided disks which I was a little disappointed with (as I'm not to fond of double sided disks), although it does save room.
Now onto the DVD content itself. On the first series it's not difficult to notice the episodes don't have the best picture quality, although this is because they were made a considerable time ago. Saying that the picture quality quickly picks up as each series progresses. There are some DVD extras, which are entertaining to watch. Although if you are a big friends fan like me, it is slightly disappointing there isn't an added extra DVD with bonus material. All you get in the box set is exactly what you would get if you bought them separately. The DVD extras that are included include behind the scenes footage and some interviews with cast members. There's also the Friends theme song video and a Friends around the world documentary.
However, basically if your buying this box set or even considering doing so, your either a big Friends fan or have a lot of money going spare (if it's the later, maybe we could be friends?). Therefore if you are a big friends fan, you're going to love the fact you can sit down and watch every friends episode from start to finish, replacing each series in the presentation box it rightfully deserves.
Right now for where to get it from the cheapest. Well at present you can purchase the box set from HMV for £99.99. You'll see a big range in prices for this item so don't be fooled into paying more than you have to! I bought it from Virgin Megastores a year ago, though I believe the price has gone up on them in Virgin now as they were on offer then. Finally I'd just like to say this is a must have product for any friends fan and you defiantly won't be disappointed with it :)
