fanfare. The show followed the lives of six twentysomething singles--Monica (Courtney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Ross (David Schwimmer), and Chandler (Matthew Perry)--who occupied a trendy New York loft apartment. These were essentially six beautiful people who had probably never known a hard day's work in their lives, and whose every utterance was a well-crafted witticism. But despite their idealized lifestyles and perfectly coiffed hairdos, there was something annoyingly endearing about them. Viewers could easily relate to their struggles with work, sex, and relationships because these were universal struggles - albeit heightened for comedic effect. From early on it was clear that FRIENDS had successfully tapped into the zeitgeist of its time, and now, 10 series down the line, the show's broad appeal continues to live on in popular culture. This box set contains every episode from series 1 through 10.
episode to the very last! For a hilarious look at dating and working in the big city, delve into the hearts and minds of six friends living in New York City as they explore the anxieties and absurdities of adulthood. During this exciting time when everything seems possible, even marriage, parenthood and career moves, they know they will always face the future together - because they've got FRIENDS.
writing and an attractive cast. The exploits of sensitive paleontologist Ross Geller (played by David Schwimmer), his obsessive-compulsive sister Monica Geller (Courteney Cox, now Cox-Arquette); Monica's roommate Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), a spoiled rich girl trying to live on her own; earthy aromatherapist/masseuse Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow); and Monica's neighbours across the hall -- sarcastic Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) and his struggling actor roommate Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) became a nationwide obsession, spawned pop-culture trends (remember "The Rachel" haircut?) and was a ratings hit for its entire run.The first two seasons were mostly centered on the on-off saga of Ross and Rachel, and while their relationship remained a strong presence through romantic rivals and even a baby, the other characters eventually moved from sideshow players into a shared comedic lead. ButFriendswas not without its heart. Most of the cast had dysfunctional relationships with their parents and went through loss, divorce, marriage, parenthood, and love triangles. The emotional pregnancies of Rachel (by Ross) and Phoebe (surrogate to her half-brother's triplets) won the actresses Emmy Awards, and Joey's tender feelings for Rachel in Season 8 won LeBlanc, the most improved actor in the series, a nomination. Most sitcoms run out of ideas by the fifth season, butFriendsgave itself a refreshing jolt the minute Monica and Chandler wound up in bed together. Their budding romance was not only the one of the funniest plot arcs of the series, but one of the most sentimental,as they planned a wedding, struggled to have a child and eventually turned to adoption. By seasons seven and onwards, the characters had each "grown up" from young singletons to thirtysomethings finding permanence in their careers and love lives but never losing the laughs.Friendsfeatured a parade of celebrity guests, but utilised most of the stars as more than mere cameos: The sextet's parents were all brilliantly cast, particularly Kathleen Turner as Chandler's drag-queen father and Teri Garr as Phoebe's dizzy mom. Everyone from George Clooney to Sean Penn to Julia Roberts to Bruce Willis has appeared on the sitcom, and Tom Selleck certainly enjoyed a career resuscitation after his recurring role as Monica's older man.Yet, no star power ever penetrated the bond between the six stars and their unmatchable chemistry worked for ten seasons. Even though the show is probably repeated somewhere in the world every day, this boxed set ofFriendsremains watchable over and over again -- even if that theme song eventually grates on your nerves!--Sally Giles

It's my first time doing a proper consumer review so go gentle!!!
I've been watching Friends pretty much since it first came out in 1994. I remember my mum sat me down with me on the settee on Friday night and said to me 'watch this, I think you'll like it'. And I've loved it ever since, it's always been my favourite programme. I bought all the videos when they first came out, then all the individual DVDs and finally this 10 series box set (I know, I'm a bit mental!) so I'm going to tell you about it.
**Friends? What exactly is that?**
So, you've been living in a cave for the past 12 years have you?! Well, it's probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest, television phenomenon of the 1990's and early 00's. Set in Manhatten, New York, this American comedy sitcom follows the lives of six friends in their mid 20's (at the start of the series) to their late 30's (at the end of the series).
**So it's an American comedy. Who are the characters in it?**
Okay, well we've got Rachel Greene (played by Jennifer Aniston). At the start of the series she is a spoilt snob who has spent her life living off her daddy's credit cards. She was going to get married but left her fiancé at the alter after realising that wasn't what she wanted. She went to seek help (and then starts to live with) her old friend from college, Monica Gellar.
Monica Gellar is played by Courtney Cox (now Courtney Cox-Arquette). Monica is a compulsive neat freak. She is a chef and has a brother called Ross Gellar.
Ross Gellar is played by David Schwimmer. Ross is a palaeontologist (that's dinosaur stuff to you and me!) who became divorced from his first wife after she discovered she was a lesbian. Ross also liked Rachel while she was going to college with Monica and throughout the series Ross and Rachel get together, break up and various other things. Ross is also friends with his old college roommate Chandler Bing.
Chandler Bing is played by Matthew Perry. Chandler's a sarcastic and witty person who is always making jokes. He becomes roommates with Joey Tribbiani.
Joey Tribbiani is played by Matt Le Blanc. Joey is an actor who is very good with the ladies but is a bit…..innocent (or stupid as some people might prefer to say!)
Our sixth character is Phoebe Buffay (played by Lisa Kudrow) who used to be Monica's roommate before Rachel. She is a dizzy, zany person who sings songs and plays guitar (and her songs are a treat to enjoy).
Rachel and Monica live in the apartment opposite Joey and Chandler and Ross and Phoebe are always over meaning you've almost always got 2 or more or all of your Friends together.
Also, one thing you have to mention when talking about Friends is their local coffee shop 'Central Perk' where they're always meeting up and having a good chat and laugh together.
Throughout the series, as with life, circumstances change, relationships blossom and disappear and plenty of entertaining situations present themselves! I'd go into more detail but if you haven't watched the series it would only spoil it for you.
**So I know what the programme's about, what's this DVD set like?**
The DVD set consists of 30 discs which has on all 10 series of Friends. The only thing that really riles me up is that the discs are dual sided (since I'm the kind of person who just pulls a disc out of the player and chucks it to the side, I could easily lose track of my discs). The packaging looks fantastic and if you're a hard core Friends fan it's something you'll really want even though you know there's no good reason for it!
The only disappointing thing is the lack of extras. Most of the DVDs have on the music video of 'I'll be there for you' by the Rembrandts which is the theme tune for friends. This video has on the musicians but also the actors and actresses. In series 4 when there is a storyline where they go to London you get a feature called "Friends On Location" a brief documentary about filming in London. Series 10 has the most special features with things like hilarious bloopers and other great little features.
**How much is it going to set me back?**
Now this collection is at it's lowest price of £98.97 (I bought it before Christmas for £120+). I know this seems like a heck of a lot but bear in mind that that's only 41p per episode-Bargain! Plus it's cheaper than buying the separate series'.
**Okay, so you've given me all the information about it, why do YOU think I should buy it?**
It's funny-I mean REALLY funny. I love the characters and every episode makes me kill myself laughing. I seriously cannot understand how anyone could not like the show and think that at the price it's at now, it's well worth paying out for. Go for it!
Thanks for reading!

Friends Like These Review ofFriends - Series 1-10 - Complete (Box Set) (DVD)by

Advantages: Great comedy Disadvantages: A distinct lack of extra's
...extras
The writing of Friends for the most part is so strong that it affords itself many extra's who dont just become one off supporting roles, but recurring guest characters. The most obvious ones are Gunther, Central Perk manager who lusts after Rachel, and the incredibly hilarious Janice, the nerve-grating ex-lover of Chandler. Every couple of years, her character is brought back for another hilarious coincidental meeting that results in increasing ... ...And its this that makes Friends such a well rounded show to view. The actor's who have appeared range through Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Charlie Sheen, Paul Rudd and most famously Tom Selleck who had a recurring role that lasted over 10 years. The actors
The main actors from Friends were mostly far less known than the guest stars they eventually would ensnare. But they were certainly born to play the coffee-swilling six-some. Jennifer Aniston ...

Advantages: You can own them all Disadvantages: costly
My sister has just brought me this from the states.
While this was on T.V, I tried to tune into every episode, only missing one or two now and then. I really wanted to own them all, but never got round to it, or couldn't afford it.
Friends, the much loved series of a group of 6 buddies, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler, and brother and sister Monica and Ross, captured audiences for just over a decade, with their life and love antics. The series finally ... ...series of all time, with desperate fans wanting more and more.
I personally loved all the series, and I could have never of got bored of it. My favourite characters were phoebe and Ross, they just cracked me up.
I loved the episodes where Ross was getting his fake sun tan, and making a complete mess of it, and the one where Ross said the wrong name at the wedding, what a cliff hanger that was.
The series was bound to come too a close sometime ...

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Friends is an American comedy series that revolves around a group of 6 friends in Manhatten. Each series consists of 24 or 25 episodes, with each episode last 22 minutes. The show ran 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004, achieving cult status in both the US and UK. Storylines often revolve around the romantic escapades of each character, most notably the on-off relationship between Ross and Rachel.
SEASON 1:
The first series of any show is rarely perfect. It may be enjoyed at the time, but in hindsight, is often just the beginning of something truly great, and that's the case with series one of Friends.
Without going over the plot too much, the basic premise is that a group...
