terror! Five years after the horrible bloodbath at Camp Crystal Lake all that remains is the legend of Jason Voorhees and his demented mother who had murdered seven camp counsellors. At a nearby summer camp the new counsellors are unconcerned about the warnings to stay away from the infamous site. Carefree the young people roam the area not sensing the ominous lurking presence. One by one they are attacked and brutally slaughtered. Suspense and screams abound in this compelling chiller...

Five years later, a newgroup of co-eds converges near Camp Crystal Lake, scene of theoriginal massacre and the drowning of Jason Vorhees that precededit. This time around, the horny collegians attend a nearby trainingschool for camp counselors. As half the group parties in town, anunseen assailant picks off the other half one by one. Only whencamp leader Paul (John Furey) and his girlfriend, Ginny (AmySteel), return to camp do they uncover the identity of theirstalker -- none other than Jason (Warrington Gillette) himself, alive but grotesquely deformed as a result of his childhooddrowning. Flashbacks chronicle Jason's behind-the-scenes activitiesin the first film (perhaps explaining how his mother was able tothrow the dead bodies of muscular youths through windows with suchapparent ease). The young couple's only hope to defeat the fiendlies in psych major Ginny's insights in Jason's mental state.

This installment officially introduced us to Jason Voorhees as the killer (if you remember Drew Barrymore's fatal phone quiz inScream, you know that the killer in the firstFriday the 13thwas actually Jason's mother), and made the slicing and dicing even more generic. Survivor Alice is dispatched within the first 10 minutes, and we're left with plucky Ginny (Amy Steel, doing a fairly decent Jamie Lee Curtis impression) to do battle with the monstrous Jason. Ginny's part of a another group of horny teenagers (less intelligent as well as less attractive than their predecessors) who try to resurrect Camp Crystal Lake five years after the initial murders--a pretty mean feat, considering this movie was made only a year after the first one. Being a smarty-pants child-psychology major, Ginny tries to outwit the dim Jason, and at one point dons the bloody and moldy sweater of Jason's late mother (which is more disgusting than any of the killings beforehand) in an attempt to confuse the masked killer. Jason may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but the only one who's going to pull the wool--or in this case, the burlap--over his eyes is Jason himself, who wears a sack with one eyehole throughout the movie to hide his deformed features (he finally found his way to a sporting-goods store and his trademark hockey mask appears in the third installment of the series). To refresh your memories here’s a little recap of the previous films events. If you’ve yet to watch it skip this paragraph to avoid spoilers. At Camp Crystal Lake, in 1957, a young boy drowned because the camp counsellors were busy making love instead of watching him. In 1958 two counsellors (I expect the same two) were brutally murdered leading to the camp being shut down. 21 years later another spate of killings befell the counsellors trying to refurbish the Camp for re-opening. Lone survivor Alice discovered the murderer to be the young boy Jason’s mother, Mrs Voorhees, who after a drawn out struggle was decapitated.
The film starts with one of the longest introductions I’ve witnessed. On some versions up to fifteen minutes long. It essentially just plays the end of the original. Then it moves on five years, and a new camp is to be opened on Crystal Lake, just a short walk from ‘Camp Blood’ of the original. A noticeably larger group of counsellors have come to prepare for it’s opening. They tell tales of the murders next door and even Crazy Ralph makes another “You’re all doomed,” appearance. Sound familiar yet?
Naturally a bunch of grisly murders follow as the young ‘uns are picked off one by one in various bloody ways until our killer is revealed near the end. All the basic horror sequel rules are fulfilled. They’ve upped the body count, increased the nudity and rehashed the plot. However the gore seems even less inspired than the original. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of blood, but the killings seem more mundane than ever and it’s not even a result of the cuts. Add to this the loss of Tom Savini on special make up effects, replaced by Carl Fullerton (more a straight make up artist), this being his first position in charge, and everything starts to add up.
Other crew changes include new ‘writer’ Ron Kurz to replace Victor Miller, who said he didn’t want to continue with the series because he didn’t like the ‘new direction’ it was taking. Sean Cunningham passed directing duties over to newcomer Steve Miner (Lake Placid), who handles the material as well as can be expected, but with no flair or invention. There is some ghastly editing and the entire production could be described as rather lack lustre, though once again partially saved by Manfredini’s over the top score.
The cast are all unknowns with few notable entries on their CV’s. I guess keeping the acting level at the same exceptionally low level doesn’t allow anyone to show up the rest of the cast. Unfortunately it also doesn’t allow the audience to enjoy many of the scenes linking the all important deaths. It is of course unfair to blame the actors entirely as I’ve watched many enjoyable films without a shred of good acting. Here we have the added inadequacies of a script that was probably churned out over a weekend. The overall effect left me bereft of any interest in the characters fate whatsoever, losing all chances of tension and my attention.
In a lot of ways this is an equal to the original (not saying much for the original), but it’s complete lack of originality or any explanation for the events that occur, not to mention the very short running time once all the flashbacks have been removed, leave this inferior to the already poor predecessor. Add to that the rushed production, weak cast, and a storyline only interested in disappointing action and you're not left with much. For completists and obsessives only.
Advantages: It's got Jason in it Disadvantages: It's like Part 1
...to the original. Friday 13th Part 2, made one year after the original movie, takes place five years after the events at Camp Crystal Lake, or Camp Blood. For those with short attention spans we are 'treated' to a catch up of the finale of the first film. This is where it gets bad. You see the dream sequence is overlong and unnecessary for the most part and rally should have been cut down or, indeed, cut altogether. Before the film starts properly ... ...guesses who) in a typical Friday 13th Gore-O-Rama way. Friday 13th 2 has an all new set of budding camp counselors embarking on a sort of training scheme and they are somehow situated right near Camp Crystal Lake, coincidence of the decade. Two of them get the warning from the crazed man saying they are all doomed (again), like many scenes in Friday the 13th its pretty pointless, if only to raise a few sniggers. With a film like this there is very ...

...an incredible amount of sequels. Friday the 13th is the main culprit. It is a movie which blatantly rips off Halloween, literally offering nothing new but killer and location and never seems to stop churning out sequels. This is part 2 of...well 8 last time I looked but there are probably more.
The plot is pretty much incidental here, its a slasher movie after all and a not very intelligent one at that. Basically its set 5 years after the original ... ...have to say that the Friday 13th series is not a collection of movies that I have ever been particularly impressed with. Apart from ripping off Halloween, they have seriously not stood the test of time very well. The gore looks really dated now, much more like red paint than anything else and there really isn't that much in the way of shocks. People have sex, run through the forest and get walked after by this killer who manages to keep pace with ...

Advantages: Jason's debut on slasher scene Disadvantages: Poor quality, bad acting
Friday the 13th is set five years after the original, and yet again sees a group of clueless American teenagers visit a lonely abandoned lake with a ominous reputation. The original Friday the 13th served as a prototype for the endless sequels, as Jason went on to take over the role of psychopathic serial killer from his mother. In true slasher style the youngsters irritate so much that you look forward to them dying. Of course you don't have to ... ...is that just stupid). The Friday films all pretty much follow the horror film rules, if you have sex you die, if you take drugs you die, and if you ever utter the words 'I'll be right back' yep you guessed it you will die. There isn't much to suggest that this movie would spawn so many more except for the key ingredients of gore and sex. Having said all that I enjoyed this film, when I was younger I saw the Friday films first and as an introduction ...

Advantages: well it's a jason film! great atmosphere, silly acting, silly haircuts, nasty yet sadistically enjoyable deaths and the birth of a true cult figure Disadvantages: well if you dont know by know..where have you been ?
Er..right, well apparantly after the death of his mother Jason wasn't best pleased, and has risen from the grave (praaiiise the lord) to wreak havok and nasty ends to loads of unsuspecting teenagers. Can't go wrong can it?
Well it's still not the jason we know (and love in some extreme cases), as he's wearing a sack over his head, and looks like something out of a german porn film. But hey, don't let this fool you..he's certainly as nasty as his ... ...of the best of the series..thanks to the way it just oozes that legendary er..jason style?. Well all the traits of the series are here..loads of deaths, frantic running (and often falling over), the silly yet brilliant musical score..if that's what you can call it..all in all, the typical jason film. Great if that's what you like - but otherwise it's a direct translation of numero uno, with a bloke weilding a sack over his head and a very large machete. ...

...sole survivor from the first Friday movie is still having nightmares about her encounter with Mrs Vorhees and her deformed son Jason. Trying to get her life back on track Alice now lives alone but on making herself a cup of tea she discovers the disembodied head of Mrs Vorhees and is soon after murdered by an unknown asssailant {not that it takes a genius to work out who} with an ice pick to the head. How many teenagers often go wandering into dark places, go swimming nude {only the females} at night and how on earth don't they notice a great big serial killer who is blatantly looking directly at them {they look straight at him and don't notice him for god's sake}. DVD Description
Operating under the assumption that the site near a particularly gruesome series of mass murders is the perfect place to open a summer camp for unsuspecting children, a fresh batch of teenage camp counselors return to the ill-fated Camp Crystal Lake five years after its most recent atrocities. Since the perpetrator of those crimes was decapitated by the only survivor (Adrienne King), the plucky teens ignorantly go about the business of reviving the camp, unaware that they are being stalked by an unseen figure who lives in the woods, waiting for the right opportunity to take bloody revenge.
