Advantages: Retro horror fun Disadvantages: Predictable
When I was growing up, all my school friends were talking about this new horror movie. Friday the 13th. I was a wimp when it came to horror films I must admit - I just couldn`t watch them, so I missed out on all the playground chat.
When I grew up, I just suddenly got an urge to watch a few horror flicks and grew into a a bit of an addict. I suppose I was making up for my former wimpiness!
Anyway, the reason I am telling you this is because the first proper horror movie I watched was friday the 13th. And I wasn`t disappointed.
It`s a standard horror movie plot - some teens go out to camp crystal lake and are being picked off one by one by a maniacal murderer.
All the way through you are hoping to catch a glimpse of the killer, but you never do and wonder who it could be. In your mind you are picturing an axe-weilding madman ...
Advantages: Great storyline, great special effects - Great everything! Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
This new Friday the 13th is awesome, and definitly my favourite out of all the Friday the 13th films. This films again shows him with his mask, his machete and all his classic horror features.
If you're a fan of horror, then you will love this film. It is scary and it is jumpy. I recall 'jumping' out of my seat once, and it was a jump at that. Everything's quiet and calming down and boom, sharp loud sound effects and a machete out of no where and I was in the air!
This film shows you where Jason finds his classic mask, and he again uses his machete as his primary weapon, however I must tell you that during the movie he also uses a Bow and arrow to kill a certain person on a boat and it was so cool!
Also, when this film starts you settle into all the characters and their story etc.. but then within 10 minutes pretty much all ...
Did Jason actually take Manhattan then? I wasn't aware that he even spent one hour there. I must admit, I was looking forward to seeing Jason run amok through the streets of New York but found myself watching about 75 minutes of completely predictable movie making. This film does not stand out in any way at all from the series.
Although I do enjoy a good brainless slasher flick and I do own the entire series of films on video. But Im not ashamed of that fact. Friday the 13th is a cult classic. And Im proud to own part of history. ...

Technically rather better than its predecessors, to whose storyline it refers, but the moral thrust remains the same (Financial Times, 12/02/2009)

This film is (be)head and shoulders above the recently reanimated likes of PROM NIGHT and MY BLOODY VALENTINE (Entertainment Weekly, 01/07/2009)
Technically rather better than its predecessors, to whose storyline it refers (Financial Times, 01/07/2009)
[FRIDAY THE 13TH has] Bay's big-budget sheen, and [is] every bit as efficient and heartless as the original Fridays (Newsday, 01/07/2009)
Director Marcus Nispel is turning into the king of movie makeovers, lending a youthful appearance to doddery film franchises... this looks like more money well spent (Teletext, 01/07/2009)
Entertaining slasher remake that's well acted and delivers the requisite amount of gruesome deaths (View London, 01/07/2009)
DVD Description
A man in search of his missing sister stumbles across a deadly secret in the woods surrounding Crystal Lake as TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE redux duo Michael Bay and Marcus Nispel resurrect one of the silver screen's most feared slashers--machete-wielding, hockey mask-wearing madman Jason Voorhees. The last time Clay heard from his sister, she was headed toward Crystal Lake. There, amidst the creaky old cabins and moss-coated trees, an unstoppable force of evil lies quietly dormant, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Though the police and locals all warn Clay to stay as far away from Crystal Lake as possible, it's the only lead he has, and he isn't willing to give up until he finds his sister. Clay isn't the only one inhabiting these woods either, because a group of thrill-seeking college students have just arrived at Crystal Lake hoping for a wild weekend of fun in the sun. Later, as Clay and one of the recently arrived revellers search for clues, the infamous Jason Voorhees emerges to show them just why the locals have avoided these woods for years. Could it be that Clay's sister has already met a grim demise at the end of Jason's razor-sharp machete, or is she still out there somewhere in the woods, waiting for her brother to come to her rescue? FREDDY VS JASON scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift pen the screenplay for a remake executive produced by Sean S. Cunningham (producer/director of the original FRIDAY THE 13TH).
