Frequency is the story of a cop, John Sullivan (Jim Cavaziel) who is able to communicate thirty years in the past to his now dead firefighter father (Dennis Quaid) using his father's old HAM radio station. This feat is made possible by the presence of the Aurora Baurealis (I hope that's spelt right), Northern lights to us plebs, in both timescales. John tells his father of his death in a fire only a few days away. With his new found knowledge, Quaid manages to escape the fire and lives. Unfortunately now that his father lives by some cruel twist of fate a serial killer is on the loose in 1969 and has killed more women than in the original timeline. John and his father decide to somehow stop the killer, especially as one of his future victims is dear to them both.
This is a great film and a well thought out script. The mixture of Sci-fi and a crime thriller work really well together and you tend to forget about the sci-fi elements and concentrate on the drama which is the real meat and potatoes of the story. The acting is excellent from the whole cast but especially from Quaid in probably his best performance since 1983's 'The Right Stuff'.
The film is presented in a 16:9 ratio (perfect for widescreen TV's) and the transfer is excellent with no blocking or rogue artifices present in the picture. It also has a cracking Dolby 5.1 mix which works really well.
As far as extras go, you have cast and crew bio's, several deleted/extended scenes a theatrical trailer and an excellent documentary that lasts for nearly half an hour and mixes elements of the film and also contains interesting facts about solar flares and the history of HAM radio. There are also subtitles in English.
I would definitely recommend this disc to anyone, a fantastic film and a couple of quality extra's. Well done!
