Have you ever felt the pressure of life get you down? Are all of the mediocre action film tedious and uninspiring? If so, Forrest Gump is the movie that will refresh your soul. This touching film will be so impressive you will be forced to go out and buy it yourself! Forrest's extraordinary tale illustrates how life can be what you want it to be, and it doesn't have to be about money, but, as it shows in this magical realism film, kindness and honesty will get you everywhere - with some rollercoaster rides along the way. The heart warming role of the very honest and amiable Forrest Gump is played by Tom Hanks. Gump, with an IQ of just 75, five points under the normal level, sees the events of American history run past his very eyes in this six time Oscar winning motion picture. Robert Zemeckis directs this film very cleverly with some effective moving moments. As its slow witted narrator, Forrest directs his autobiography on his lifelong love for Jenny (Robin Wright), as he travels through the key events in American history, including teaching Elvis Presley how to dance and fighting as a hero in Vietnam. Zemeckis (winner of Academy Awards for his earlier 80s blockbuster "Back to the Future") uses many effective techniques straight from the start. The opening credits see a feather that floats down from the sky and ends up in a precise destination; this acts as a metaphor for Forrest's own passage through life, something which will astonish those who have seen it. Zemeckis creates the background for such an emotionally gripping story, and highlights Gump's honesty and pleasantness making it hard to dislike him. Hanks displays the same personalities as in his previous film Big as both characters are children inside a man's body. Gump opens the film sitting on a bus stop bench telling his story to passers by, including how he met the President of the United States. He seems oblivious to his astounded listener as he begins to tell him how "the really good thing about meetin' the President of the United States is the food." He ends up drinking too much Dr. Pepper and then explains to the President uncomfortably that he needs to go to the bathroom. Gump's naivety and innocence is what makes this show so captivating. The good-natured simpleton, Forrest, tells his story to anyone who will listen. His flashbacks show us he has led a very successful and adventurous life despite his low level of intelligence. Through this journey he sees his childhood friend and sometime lover, Jenny, who has a somewhat painfully tragic life herself, embracing drugs and protesting. In contrast, the naïve Gump thrives in life becoming a professional football player, a business magnate and a ping-pong champion, but still feels he has done nothing of the sort. A very likeable quality of Forrest is his honest opinion and views of events and other people. Through his life his experiences are thrilling; including being sent overseas for the Vietnam War. His views on it (which again show his naïveté and innocence) were that they "took long walks and were always looking for this guy named Charlie" (with a tremendous performance by Gary Sinise - Lieutenant Dan - duly given an Oscar nomination). Without realising it Gump discovers important principles about racism, war, assassinations and a different way of life: to be good. The film's special features (created by Special Visual Effects star and Oscar winner Allen Hall) were fantastic. When Forrest Gump met the President of the USA it seemed the President and Gump were in the same shot, and nothing seemed to be false. This was true whenever Gump met famous people in his past; including Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, as well as John Lennon. When Forrest was a professional ping-pong player was he really hitting the ball at high speeds? It seems so, as the fast moving balls and the sounds have been artificially added so well that anyone would think he was talented at the sport. The now famous quote "Run Forrest, run!" is initially heard when childhood friend Jenny tells him to run away from bullies chasing him. However, it provokes the character to run for miles, and later in the film it becomes a hobby of his. During his humorous little scurry, music (from Oscar Nominee Alan Silvestri) such as "Running On Empty", "It keeps you Running" and "On the Road again" are used to heighten the sense of comedy. The fitting match of score to script occurs frequently, making the film's soundtrack one of the major effects in the film. Forrest's extraordinary tale illustrates how life can be what you want it to be, and it doesn't have to be about money, but, as it shows in this magical realism film, kindness and honesty will get you everywhere - with some rollercoaster rides along the way. Forrest Gump is an inspirational film with a believable, simple character thrust into some difficult situations, with tragic, funny and fantastic results. Through it all his simple philosophy shines through sending the message that honesty and moral fortitude will always win the day. The feather continues its meandering path, suggesting life will continue to be full of surprises, its course determined by changes in the wind; in the same way that Forrest's life is full of unexpected twists and turns. The final scene where Forrest sends his son off to school for the day combines a feeling that life is safe and secure, through the repetition of a simple parental task, with a message of hope for the future in a world with greater understanding.
Advantages: Gives the easily moved something to cry about. Disadvantages: It would be an excellent film if it didnt suck so much.
I’m actually allergic to Forrest Gump. All it takes is for someone to say (in the appropriate voice) “I’m Forrest, Forrest Gump” and I go into shock. I was in a coma for two weeks after someone crept up behind me and said “Life is like a box of chocolates…” luckily I managed to smite him dead before he could finish the quote, which could have killed me. Every one has things they just can’t stand; for Winston its rats, for Rabbit its mess and for ... ...Fast becoming a modern classic(!), Forrest Gump successfully hijacked the only market that could be taken in by it; namely Romantic loving females, who manage to turn dire films such as The English Patient and Forrest Gump into timeless classics.
Forrest Gump follows the twee, Fairy Tale life of an idiot who manages by sheer fluke to succeed at everything he does, helped by his stereotypical down to earth-no nonsense mother and slutty childhood ...

Forrest Gump is the multi-Oscar winning film made in 1994, starring Tom Hanks. It is one of my all-time favourite films, and having watched it again yesterday, I decided to write a review on it...
Forrest Gump is a kind-hearted, friendly but simple man from Alabama. It is narrated by Forrest himself; sat on a bench waiting for the bus, reminscing about his life to complete strangers.
As a child, he was mercilessly bullied because of his leg braces ... ...fighting in the war, and Forrest keeps his promise to Bubba.
The true love of his life is a childhood friend, Jenny. Jenny's life is the complete opposite to Forrest's, but he is deeply in love with her. She pushes him away, almost embarrassed by him, as she flits in and out of his life as she travels the country, poses in Playboy and joins anti-war groups.
However, he receives a letter from Jenny, asking her to meet him, which brings the film ...

...Perdition... and so on. Forrest Gump is the film every body loves and can relate to, simply because it goes through so many different issues and events that it's hard for someone not to find something in common with Gump. This fictional tale follows a young boy who grows up in legs braces who then teaches Elvis to gyrate, runs faster than any other college football league player, wins a medal of honour in the vietnam war, runs for world peace all ... ...praise for his portrayal of Forrest Gump. This feel good film features Tom Hanks as the loveable Forrest Gump, Gary Sinise as Lt Dan Taylor, Robin Penn Wright as Jenny (his childhood sweetheart) and Sally Field as his mother. It runs for 142 minutes and is rated a PG-13. People who grew up in the 50's through to the 80's will enjoy this film that incorporates many people and events into this story from John Lennon to the Vietnam War. This film deservedly ...

...you have to write about Forrest Gump? My mind had been ranting from the time my heart elicited a wish to write about this. It had been ceaseless for it thought that I wouldn’t be able to render justice to this great motion picture as many great writers who have already posted an article. I am perturbed. But then, This movie is all and all a movie that connects heart to heart. Why, then should I ever listen to my befuddling mind?
Why shouldn't I ... ...effect on my sense buds. Forrest Gump is a marvel. When I say it's a marvel, it points my finger to the thought that it's no-nonsense piece of art. Forrest Gump reminds us of the basic mannerism that are forgot by many of us owing to the culture around us. It shows us that we have no reasons to be brusque on the people who are below the normal level.

Who stars in the film?
Tom Hanks superbly portrays the life of Forrest Gump. Hanks has become one of my all time favourite actors, from Forrest Gump he has continued to impress and has now appeared in several other blockbuster hits including ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Green Mile’ and ‘Cast Away’. Alongside Hanks in this masterpiece is Robin Wright, who ... ...landing at the feet of Forrest Gump who is sitting on a bus stop bench. ...It's hard to believe this film is coming on for fifteen years old. For me, it was a big part of my early teenage life, and I have loved it since I first saw it.
It tells the story of ForrestGump, a man with learning difficulties from Alabama. His personality is so gentle and unassuming that you think he will just get taken advantage of his whole life, but he goes on to lead the most exciting existence you can imagine. From fighting in the war, to meeting the president, getting shot in the bum to playing ping pong for his country, Forrest falls into adventure after adventure in this heart warming movie.
The plot is just great. Of course, it's total fantasy, but it's a feel good film. Not that there isn't a touch of sadness in it too. To be fair, that's why it is so good. It combines action, romance and comedy all in one.

...get the small Josh's clothes on (he ended up stealing his Dad's) and the reaction of Josh's Mum when she finds the big Josh in the house.
It was a "nice" film, some scenes are really funny, some rather poignant. It's not a classic like the ever popular ForrestGump, (a firm favourite in our house) but a pleasant way to pass a couple of hours.
No one would buy this DVD for the extras. All they give you is the cinema trailer for the film lasting a little over two minutes....

Trivia
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Originally the film was cast as Martin having six children but Gibson decided to add another one to match his own family of seven children.
Robert Rodart played a very minor role in the film.
The house belonging to Charlotte (Martin's sister-in-law) was the same house used in "ForrestGump".

You can pick up a copy at Amazon at £7.97 or team it with another DVD such as "Braveheart" for about £13. As usual e-bay offer many bargains either as a single DVD or as a pair.
My recommendation drops one star due to the rather clichéd ending.
Thanks for reading
