It's hard to believe this film is coming on for fifteen years old. For me, it was a big part of my early teenage life, and I have loved it since I first saw it.
It tells the story of Forrest Gump, a man with learning difficulties from Alabama. His personality is so gentle and unassuming that you think he will just get taken advantage of his whole life, but he goes on to lead the most exciting existence you can imagine. From fighting in the war, to meeting the president, getting shot in the bum to playing ping pong for his country, Forrest falls into adventure after adventure in this heart warming movie.
The plot is just great. Of course, it's total fantasy, but it's a feel good film. Not that there isn't a touch of sadness in it too. To be fair, that's why it is so good. It combines action, romance and comedy all in one.
Tom Hanks stars as Gump, giving a totally believable performance. Gump is quite a one dimensional character, so it's not like there's a lot of emotion to portray, but on the other hand it isn't always easy acting 'simple', and Hanks has mastered the art here.
The film combines real life events and footage, reworked around the story. So, for example, Forrest is interviewed with John Lennon. These little special effects scene add a much needed sense of reality to a story that is as imaginative and creative as any child could imagine.
There are some deep messages in the film, attacking a lot of aspects of modern life, but it can also be enjoyed on a simple level, making it appropriate for all ages.
In conclusion, this is an excellent family film that you can watch with anyone, and everyone can get something good out of it.
Advantages: A movie for the whole family to enjoy - very moving and very funny Disadvantages: Nothing
is ill so they move in with him and later Jenny asks Forrest to marry him. They wed and soon after Jenny dies. The story concludes with young Forrest?s first day at school and as Forrest watches the school bus pull away he opens the book and the same feather floats away back into the sky.

Advantages: Originality and perfection: makes you laugh, cry and think. Disadvantages: No disadvantages I can think of
, Jenny is brought down by the trauma in her life. She tells Forrest that 'You and I have very different lives', when really they both have bad things that happen to them, yet they react in different ways.
As well as being a very moving film, ForrestGump is also funny and artistic. The fact that a man who would be regarded as 'retarded' can become so successful in so many ways: 'And I met the president of the united states.... agaaain.' This film is truly inspirational, and everyone should be required to see it.

BACKGROUND
******************
I was bought ForrestGump on VHS for a Christmas Present when I was about 15 (around 1995.) I upgraded to DVD format when I bought my first DVD player about four or five years ago and, despite having seen it 30+ times, I still cry like a baby. My husband thinks it's hilarious, he dares me not to cry and, as the film approaches the poignant scenes that affect me, starts giving a running commentary.
"Is she going to go?.... Is she going to..... Ooooo! She's gone!"
I don't know why this particular film effects me so much, I think it's largely to do with the superb way in which Tom Hanks portrays Gump. For those of you who don't know the story (I don't actually know of anyone who hasn't seen this film), here is a quick rundown.
