this is a great film these are the different characters involved and what they bring to this amazing film.
KEVIN BACON
plays Ren Mac-Cormack a teenager raised in Chicago who moves to a small town were basically anything good or fun is banned and this unfortunately includes two things he has great enthusiasm and great passion towards which is music and dancing they were banned by the strict Reverend Shaw Moore.
Its not long into the time Ren has moved there until the strict people off the town make him feel unwelcome with there outdated beliefs.
When he disagrees with one woman's views on a book called slaughter house five after she voices her concerns to the reverent saying slaughter house five isn't that a awful name to which Ren replies its a great book slaughter house five its a classic only to get a rather defensive reply when she says maybe in another town its a classic unable to set her strict views aside and completely discounting Rens opinion this is just one example of how the town is and how the people in it react to anything they feel to be a sin.
Ren soon becomes acquainted with the reverends daughter Ariel who has a boyfriend name chuck and Ren becomes intent on winning her over chuck is a very arrogant guy and somewhat of a bully he doesn't treat aerial with very much respect at all and Ren is there to pick up the pieces and look after her when chuck proves himself to be a bad bf and a bully in later on scenes in the film.
He wants the law against dancing and music to be abolished but is going to have a fight on his hands if he wants to achieve this.
He also makes friends with Willard and his girlfriend rusty (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) who is aerials mate Willard and Ren become very close friends and this is something Ren needed as he wasn't fitting in in in there town at all and he even runs into trouble at the beginning when someone at his school try,s to give him drugs and the teacher walks in and assumes he is doing them people in the town soon assume he is a troublemaker and even his own family question him.
LORI SINGER
plays the part of aerial the reverends daughter who is rebelling because of her dads very strict laws and the pressure she feels to always be good sends her on a mission to do everything she isn't meant to do. Shes very daring and puts her self in very dangerous situations but this is to counteract the well behaved life her dad wants her to lead and pushes her to the crazy things she does. She is involved with chuck who you mite say is the cool guy in the school but he is not too great a person. He doesn't treat her very well at all her main drive to be with him seems to be the same reason as the rest of the things she takes part in which is to annoy her father.
When she meets Ren she wrongly assumes he doesn't like her.
Overall
This is an amazing film with great performances put in by Dianne wiest as vi the reverends wife and the reverend is played by John lithgow who is very convincing in his role as Shaw Moore the strict reverend of a small town. Kevin bacon puts in a amazing performance as the teenager just having moved to a town who is trying to change the way they see things he does some very amazing dance scenes and really brings the film to life Lori singer is also very good as aerial as are Sarah Jessica parker and Chris penn as ren and aerials friends rusty and Willard.
