Full review
I have seen quite a few films this week, and have been really enjoying seeing so many different genres of films. The film that I chose to review this week which I enjoyed watching was a film called Fool's Gold. Personally I hadn't even heard about it until a friend mentioned it was really funny and a great film, once I looked into it I noticed my magazine had reviewed it and given it a good rating. I also noticed the two main stars of the film are Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey who have worked together previously in one of my favourite films 'How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days' so I was hoping this would be just as good.

The film starts with Ben Finn (Matthew McConaughey), who we find out is a treasure hunter, looking for treasure lost at sea in the 1700's. While dedicating his time to looking for this treasure, his marriage to Tess (Kate Hudson) isn't going too well. Finn then gets a clue to the whereabouts of the treasure and manages to get onto Nigel Honeycutt's (Donald Sutherland) yacht a millionaire whom Tess is now working for which Finn doesn't know at the time. Also with Nigel is his daughter Gemma (Alexis Dziena) and once Finn is on this yacht he gets the Honeycutt's wanting to look for the treasure also.

Apart from Finn and the Honeycutt's there are also a few others wanting this treasure, among them are Bigg Bunny (Kevin Hart) a gangster and Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone), Finn's mentor. The story pretty much plays on from this part as the search for the treasure continues with the three teams against each other to see who can find it first with sneaky tactics in play.

With this film, it was nothing like I thought it would be, my friends had told me the cinema was laughing continuously when they saw it but I didn't find it that kind of a comedy. It had a few funny moments but wasn't the funniest film I had ever seen and I felt the plot wasn't exciting enough really to continue this plot outright. I felt the idea of looking for treasure, could have been exciting with so much going on but instead the main focus was on the couple Ben and Tess just arguing a lot and it sort of took the excitement of the quest for treasure off.

The acting in the film was ok but a few characters made the plot a bit better. For me, personally I am not really a Matthew McConaughey fan in any case I just don't like him as an actor and in this he was the same as he is in every role. He isn't funny, he isn't really adaptable and in this role he still wasn't relatable and seemed to not really get into character I just couldn't take him seriously and found him dull.

Kate Hudson was quite good but not up to her usual acting. She still made a few funny comments which made her likeable but her character complained quite a lot and in some ways quite annoyed me. I have seen her try harder in other roles and felt she didn't really shine in this role. I think Donald Sutherland was good in the millionaire role and he and his daughter were funny and made the film a bit more light hearted.

What I think disappointed me most is that although not liking Matthew McConaughey I have to give him credit for being good in the part in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Then to expect the same kind of on screen chemistry in this film was just not what happened at all as there was no chemistry here the pair didn't act as well together on this and their character were just a lot more boring.

The film was just out at the cinema a few weeks ago and is still showing in some cinemas. It lasts approximately 113 minutes which in my opinion was just too long. It is also a 12A certificate.

This film might appeal to those who like adventure and are looking for any easy to watch film which doesn't have too intense a plot. It was good but just not amazing and if like me you were hoping for another McConaughey Hudson success then don't get your hopes up.
