Plot: Juliette Binoche stars as Suzanne, a single mother living in Paris, doing her best to raise her seven-year-old son, Simon (Simon Iteanu), while preparing her latest puppet show, based on the Yuan Dynasty story of Zhang Yu and his beloved, Qiong Lian. Suzanne hires Song (Song Fang), a Taiwanese film student, to come to Paris to take care of Simon. Song goes everywhere with her camera, filming everything she sees. Meanwhile, Simon is being followed by a red balloon that has grown attached to the boy. The balloon, which seems to have its own personality, hovers over the boy and his family as Suzanne struggles with her daily life, fighting with tenants who owe back rent, moving a piano, and getting ready for the puppet show.

Some 50 years later, Taiwanese auteur Hou Hsiao Hsien has made his first French-language film, the charming and subtle FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON, commissioned by the Musee d'Orsay and inspired by Lamorisse's children's classic. A blonde Juliette Binoche stars as Suzanne, a single mother living in Paris, doing her best to raise her seven-year-old son, Simon (Simon Iteanu), while preparing her latest puppet show, based on the Yuan Dynasty story of Zhang Yu and his beloved, Qiong Lian. Suzanne hires Song (Song Fang), a Taiwanese film student, to come to Paris to take care of Simon. Song goes everywhere with her camera, filming everything she sees. Meanwhile, Simon is being followed by a red balloon that has grown attached to the boy. The balloon, which seems to have its own personality, hovers over the boy and his family as Suzanne struggles with her daily life, fighting with tenants who owe back rent, moving a piano, and getting ready for the puppet show. Hou, the director of such widely acclaimed films as THE PUPPETMASTER, FLOWERS OF SHANGHAI, and CAFE LUMIERE, has created a touching, beautiful film in FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON, which opened the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was also selected for that year's New York Film Festival. Not only does the balloon serve as a character unto itself but so does the city of Paris as Song and Simon walk through the streets and ride the train. All the dialogue in the film is improvised, shot in long takes by cinematographer Mark Lee Ping Bing; Hou provided each of the actors with the general scenario and back story and then had them fill in the dialogue and movement themselves, adding a natural authenticity to the film.
Advantages: Fast moving film. Disadvantages: None.
.... It steadily built suspense. I was on the edge of my seat during most of the movie. It's been a while since I heard an audience cheer and clap, and get excited in a theater.

Advantages: Gripping, Intellegent, Well Acted and Directed, Subtle Disadvantages: Some Unintentional Giggles
...Lisa has just come back from her Grandma's funeral and is having a pretty bad day - the flights are delayed, her father is constantly worried about her and she is stuck reading a Doctor Phil book. However when she meets Jackson Rippner her day perks up abit - he is charming and handsome and helps her pass the time. However, when they board the plane they part ways, until she sees that they are sitting together that is. At first he is good humoured and she begins to enjoy his company, but then he turns - he has her father hostage and will kill him unless she uses her managerial powers to switch the presidents room at the hotel she works at. How can she choose between her father and the president? And will she be able to escape this psychopath alive?
Red Eye is a nifty little thriller that's almost Hitchcockian in execution, unbearably...

Advantages: Great theme tune. Unrivalled comedy Disadvantages: You will laugh so hard you will cry
...Having never bought any of the series on VHS but a great lover of the show i was eagerly anticipating the release of these on DVD, and I was not dissapointed. Origonally retailing at £19.99 though im sure you can find it cheaper now on "Play" for example.
For any of you younger generation that don't know what Red Dwarf is a comedy about, well...... all of the crew on a mining space ship are wiped out except Dave Lister a repair man (as he was in suspended animation). He has a few companions on the ship though including an evolved version of his pet cat and a computerised hologram of one his crew mates. All of series one is situated on the Red Dwarf ship itself and follows their far from normal lives aboard the ship. If you are not a science fiction fan do not be put off watching it, trust me you don't need to be a rocket scientist...
