A classic for all the family to enjoy! I watched this many years ago as a 10 year-old. I vividly remember the special effects for the ship and its pilot Max. Watching that first time I was able to very much relate to David, the main character he's a lot like any pre-teen, likes sports, has a pet, bickers with his brother and is starting to notice girls in a different way.
It's the 4th of July 1978, Independence Day celebrations for Americans. David's brother is at a friend's house and he gets told to go and collect his brother for a family celebration. He takes a shortcut through the woods, so did his brother jumping out and scaring his wits out, David falls, hits his head and wakes up sometime later.
He returns home only to find his parents aren't there, someone else lives there! As it turns out, 8 years have passed and David hasn't aged a day, why? You'll have to watch to find out!
This is a fun filled adventure story of a 12 year old trying to find his right place in the world, and he has to make decisions usually only an adult would take, it's a story of a young person making serious growth and learning to fully appreciate his family, even if his brother sometimes annoys him.
As a 10 year old I got thrilled by the adventure of the story, watching it again over 10 years later (I'm 22 now) I'm still entertained by it, albeit in a different way now. I think Flight of the Navigator is one of these few "kiddy" movies that can actually offer something to everyone of all ages that watches it. I only wish there was more films today to this kind of standard!
The special effects are now dated by today's standards of course, but they work great in the films context. There's some wonderful music pieces thrown in, which are inspire the mystery and wonder. With an original story that I've never seen before or since, so what are you waiting for?
It's not too late to get a piece of the fun, and for less than £5 to boot!
