FOOTLOOSE
"Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormick played by Kevin Bacon, a Chicago native who finds himself stuck in the small town of Bomont after his father leaves both him and his mother. Once they arrive in Bomont Ren find out that dancing has been banned by the Reverend Shaw Moore plyed by John Lithgo, someone who believes that the presence of rock music will lead to the downfall of the children in this rural town. His daughter Ariel is the most rebellious girl in town, as well as the object of Ren's desire, although almost as soon as Arial comes on the scene you get the distinct feeling that she wants him just as badly. At the same time Ariel is forced into a battle with her father over the right to dance and have fun. Ariel helps Ren find passages in the bible to convince her father to let them hold a dance at the edge of town. Using words from the bible Ren convinces the Rev, who turns up at the dance with his wife."

In all honesty this movie seemed to be lacking a good solid storyline, but after a couple of days something makes you want to see it again. I'm not sure if its just the fact that when it was made this would have been a big thing and well Ren really made a difference in the town.

I felt that the part of Ren played by Bacon was really played well, and i loved how the character kept going back to his emotions over his father leaving them and having to move to this town. Whoever desgined the set or layout of the town did their job right because it really did look like a dreary little boring place.

Chris Penn plays Rens best friend in this movie and he was brilliant in this part of a guy who may not have it all upstairs and likes to get into fights but he changes in some ways when you watch him really try his hardest to learn to dance so that he can take his girlfriend to a dance and actually be able to dance with her rather then letting some other guy be all over her.

For one i would have liked to see a lot more music in a movie that supposed to be about dancing, but i guess as its banned in the town your not going to hear much of it, until right at the end when it allowed.

The fight between what the Rev believed in and what his bible said about dancing was really well written and the part played by John Lithgo was superbe, i really don't see anyone else doing that good a job in the part.

I would say rent it first because its not for everyone. Although if you like classic 80's movies then you probably will love it.

FLASHDANCE
"18-year-old Alex Owens is a welder by day and dancing in a strip joint where the women never actually take off their clothes by night. She has long dreamed of dancing in the legitimate ballet, encouraged by her friend, aged dancer Hanna Long. She's also in love with the owner of the steel mill, Nick Hurley as she struggles to realize her dream, but on her own terms, refusing to accept his assistance in getting an audition at the Conservatory"

Is it always with a lot of 80's movie that the main character is a normal job by day and something else by night?

I put off watching this movie for ages, it just didn't appeal to me much, although a lot of people told me it was worth the watch i just never got around to it. Eventually though i did watch it, and i found myself completely wrapped up in the storyline wondering if this young girl would go the distance and fight for her dream and in her way, or give up because of the fear and because of how difficult it would be for her.

Jennifer Beals plays a magnificent part as Alex in this movie, and after i had finished watching it, i found myself wanting to know what other movies she was in because as an actor i found her to be very convincing. Pity the same couldnt be said of Michael Nouri. I really didnt get on with his character at all, he annoyed me and made me feel like Alex could just easily give up her dream and stick with him, which would have been the bad choise if you ask me. Thank god she didn't.

Its amazing how this girl, Alex, was able to have a job as a welder, i was under the impression that in those times woman didn't have those kinds of jobs. Maybe the writer felt that as times were changing he would put a woman in a career that was hugly differnt at the time. Good for him!

I really felt the ending could have been better as i didnt really believe it and it kind of ended abruptly. Personally i felt the chemestry between the dog and Alex more then Nick and Alex. Definatly watch it, but i hope you enjoy the ending much more then i did.

PRETTY IN PINK
Released in 1986 and written by John Hughes Pretty in Pink is your classic American teen film. You have the rich and popular Blane. The smart and creative, although terribly poor outcast Andi. The third key player in this is show stealer Duckie Dale, funny and geeky. Duckie is madly in love with Andi, yet destined to remain her best friend and nothing more.

I wasnt blown away by this in all honesty, but several days later i wanted to watch it again. No idea why but it must be something in that old 80'd charm.

I've watched The Breakfast Club and Molly Ringwald who played Andi was much better in that. Was it just me or were her family really really annoying? She was ok in the movie don't get me wrong, but not one of her stronger preformances. Her character was quiant, friendly and altogether giving, and the fact that she worked in a record store really give the character some of her edge and explained a lot about her.

So sweet how Andi didn't want Blane to drop her off at home because she felt like she would be embarresed if he knew where she lived, compaired to where he lived. If this was the case why did they go to the same school? Wouldn't Blane go to private school? The way they played it i'm sure he was rich enough.

Andrew McCarthy was supposed to be well known for his parts in the 80's, such a shame that his acting or maybe it was just the awful character he was playing, let him down. Blane didn't seem to be able to think for himself, he had the most stupid friends and personally if i was Andi i would have stayed the hell away.

Duckie? To me he's like Marmite, you love him or you hate him. In some ways he's the annoying geeky kid at school who won't leave you alone and calls you all the time. In other ways hes a great friend to Andi and deep down really cares even if he can't show it.

Just a note on whoever wrote the part of Andi's dad. If he was supposed to come off as lazy and in some ways disgusting then the guy who played him, Harry Dean Stanton, did the job well, a father who really has nothing to give his daughter, and who has to take care of him instead of the other way around. At the same time he loves his daughter and you know it.

I loved Andi's friend Iona, what a great part! Great woman, fun character. Wish she had kept the dress as it was given to her though, hated what she did with it.

Wasn't sure if i liked the ending or not, could really have gone one of two ways, i'll let you decide which it should have been.

Okay, I have rerated it as somewhat helpful as I agree it is better but I agree with what Nar has to say below. Ellie.

Rerated very helpful because I feel you have put a lot more effort into this but, do be careful with plagarism.

Sorry Amyea3, but even with re-written parts, original "biogs" have been left over from the first time you reviewed this, despite re-written passages under the " inverted commas. Use of the inverted commas make no sense either since there is no explanation in your review to why you use them. For the moment, I shall keep the original rating here. Less of the plot and more of your own opinions, special effects, music, dance sequences and general observations will highlight this review as your own, not merely a synopsis of the film which appears elsewhere on the internet from another author.
