Advantages: Brian Blessed's in it shouting "DIVE" alot! And it's got the best soundtrack to a film... ever! Disadvantages: Maybe to camp and colourful for some. Avoid if you lack a sense of humour or are looking for something high-brow.

Or so the Queen soundtrack goes over the comic-book enriched title credits (something Spiderman 2 would later borrow). It serves to get the audience's toes immediately tapping in anticipation for the film to begin outright and, for some bizarre reason, coupled with the spandex pants, phallic shaped spaceships, an over-developed sense for bright, garish colours and Brian Blessed shouting "DIVE" to his birdman hordes whenever he gets the chance, FlashGordon comes across as a deliriously brilliant, camp piece of outrageous space opera cinematics. Indeed, with these hallmarks, it's impossible to imagine a movie that's more innocently entertaining (only Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure seems to usurp FlashGordon to such a title ...
Advantages: great animation and entertaining comedy Disadvantages: I can't see any
(which are met with agonising injury). It's hard to take this seriously but is great to watch for it's lighthearted comedic qualities.
However be warned the plot does not remain eternally shallow and lighthearted and does gradually become more serious, with much exploration of each character and their personality.
The DVD comes adorned with attractive and colourful artwork, much like how it is in the actual animation. Scene and audio selections are available as well as episode selection. Included also is a preview of other great anime works with one of them sure to ctach your eye. It certainly did when I watched it and since them I've already seen Fullmetal Alchemist among others.
A great watch with an ending which I'll not spoil, but suffice to say it leaves plenty of opportunity for a sequel of equally brililliant animation ...

and has ruined the image of Mr Bean for me. At first I was curious and quite excited - I had hoped the comedy would be on the same lines as the original but I was wrong.
The soundtrack is mostly orchestral with symbols, drums and flutes to emphasise dramtic turn arounds and Beans thoughts. The vocals, as the televised original series is basically mumbles and whimpers with the odd 'ooooo' sound. Another thing that irritates me is the fact that they have tried to modernise him and have given him a girl friend, not that that ever get together, lord no, what would happen to teddy, where would he sleep!? Irma Gobb is more a romantic interst whom Bean tries to impress, but rarely suceeds.
